Question: What the hell does Gunny mean and how did it get that meaning on this site? Wikipedia doesn't list it, and that's typically where I get information that is over my head when it comes to the cultural abyss I live in. It only says what I thought it meant, not how it's used on this board. I assume it means something akin to +1, "got that right", "word", or other affirmation, but how did it come to that here?

Request: On another web site, someone mentioned his mother-in-law and then referred to her as MIL from that point forward. I'd like this request to spread across the entire internet, so it should start here. Please NEVER use MIL for mother-in-law. It is too close to MILF and that's an ugly thought.

Thanks!

Gunny = +1. It started when GunMD got all "whiney gash" (to use a WC-ism) about what a waste of time and bandwidth it was to post with just a +1. As you can imagine, a dog pile ensued, and someone (TWN?) suggested that "Gunny" might take the place of +1, in GunMD's honor. It stuck.

I pledge only to use the four letter acronym MILF, and never the shortened, fat, ugly and mean spirited MIL. The ex's wicked step mother could ONLY be involved in sexual aspirations in some Dante-esque vision of HELL. <shudder>

Thank you! I knew it had to do with something like that, but do a search for Gunny and you get 7 pages! But, this is how infamy starts! Gunny, you're gonna be famous!! It'll be on Wikipedia shortly!

Now, let's work on my request!!!

A coupla weeks ago GunMD posted a thread saying how he thought all the '+1' posts after someone made a point were rather useless. A few posts later, TWN suggested the phrase 'gunny' instead of '+1'. Lots of people thought that was kinda cool...

The true origin of 'GUNNY!'

Click.

Oh, I added GUNNY! to Urban Dictionary. It's under review.

BWAAAAAAAAAA!

Just to make sure I'm clear you want a MILF, Right?
To be very clear: What I DON'T want is someone to post MIL referring to their mother-in-law and me mistaking it for MILF. The idea of those two terms being interchangeable, well, it's enough to puke!

I already have a MILF for a wife. That vision is enough to sustain me. Please, spread this so my vision isn't tainted!

Okay, Pony, we'll just use "TEBTBMW" to save any possibility of confusion with "MILF."

gunmd thought a reply in a thread with only "+1" was useless, so someone else decided to rename it gunnie in tribute? would that be like me stating that i think someone who replies with simply "me too" is rather useless, and from that point on instead of saying "me too", we say "misty" or whatever nickname? i don't know that i'd like that, but maybe that's just me?

What, you don't want to be called "Misty"? Okay! :yahoo:

Gunny, OTH, has been around here amidst the jocularity for some time and has a great sense of humor and an understanding demeanor. (The more you pick on him de-meaner he gets!)
