Question for AE owners

I'll be contemplating the order of an 07 AE in a few months. I've noticed a habit I have (and use often) that makes me wonder how it would behave/work on an AE. Thought someone might enlighten me.

Rolling toward a stop sign or light in 5th gear, I commonly pull the clutch and hold it in, lightly apply both brakes and down shift as the bike speed drops. You know, engine at idle, click 4th, coast, click 3rd, coast...

So I can't help but wonder with an AE, would I get engine braking if I downshifted electrically, or is there a way to duplicate that same technique (without going manual on the clutch of course)?

You can wait until the bike is at a stop then just tap the control repeatedly until the bike is in first gear. One of the Yamaha service reps told me he rode one for a week while in California and the bike would always go from fifth to 1st or neutral if needed without having to rock the bike. He said he just tapped the control and it would ratchet down without fail.

Guess there is no way to "coast" down without manually pulling the clutch? That's really what I do a lot of.

I was reading in the 06 service manual & it looks like the only time the AE will coast is if you downshift at a point when the engine would over rev. So i guess you could downshift rapidly to 1st gear or N if you felt the need to coast, Just not sure why you would want to do that?

I do the same thing, that way if the light changes before you come to a complete stop , I'm already in the right gear to let the clutch out and go. I guess there is no way to do that on tha AE. I'm sure the AE would allow you to come up with something simular that works, but that is why I bought tha A model...... I can continue to ride like I have and not have to come up with a new way to do something simple like this . Maybe I'm getting old and just don't care to re-learn how to shift :yahoo:
