Question for our trip to Denver July 06

We (my husband and I) are planning a trip to Montana and we are trailering our two FJR's to Denver. We would like to know if anyone has any recommendations of where we can store (at low or no cost) our SUV and trailer during our 2 week tour to Montana and back to Denver.

We are planning to arrive in Denver (from upstate NY) on Sunday July 2. I know it's some tiime away, but I figured we would ask early for some input.

Also, we are looking for a economical (no cockroaches) place to stay for a couple nights before heading to Montana. So, any suggestions there would also be appreciated.

There are plenty of low cost motels around but a place for your

SUV and trailer might be harder.

I will do some checking and will see what I can find.

Unfourtunatly I don't have room here at the house

You might check with a local (or close to town) KOA or RV park. They might have a place to park the unit for a couple of weeks. Some storage yards have someone on premises 24 hrs. a day.

I'm from Rochester, NY and would love to meet you guys after eye get my 06 in April or so.

With that out of tha way, I would like to suggest something else for the two of you but first you must understand that my way/suggestion can only be accomplished if you can DUMP DENVER and pick another place to drop-store your trailer and car.

All you need to do is pick a KOA to stay at a couple of nights and then pay them a modest fee per-day to leave your car and trailer there. And, on top of that, I have the perfect place. You see most KOA's are family run and those people aren't dumb enough to allow some easy cash to slip thru their hands when all's they have to do is let you park over on some other part of the camp away from the housing units/sites.

My 1st choice would be the KOA in Cheyenne, Wyoming which is located about 100 miles north of Denver. I stayed there two summers ago and already know that they are gonna say fine, and give you a price.

It was run by a Husband & wife team out of Calif., that retired 4 years ago and wanted to own a KOA. She passed away a year after they got the place and the husband runs it by himself. All you have to do is call him and tell him that you will be in the area and would like to stay there for a couple of nights. And, that you will be biking over into Montana, South Dakota and Wyoming; However, you need a place to leave your car and bike trailer for a week or so and don't have a problem paying for tha right to do so.

Another good place is the KOA in Durango and a no-name campground in Buena Vista.

Having done this many times before we were always able to find a truck stop that would allow us to store a tow vehicle and a trailer for a week. Just ask the cashier for permission and fill up your tanks there and you should not have a problem. We would just show up and ask nicely. We were never turned down in the 6 times we did this.

I'd like to believe a KOA might be a little safer to leave the rig parked than a truck stop. RVers are more likely to keep an eye on your rig or report anyone strange messing with it.

You could call parking at Denver International Airport and check prices for long term parking, 303-DIA-PARK, some rates are as low as $5/day.

If it is a bus disguised as a RV I won't be able to do you any good at my place. There is also a storage yard along highway 36 between Denver and Boulder. I think she said it was an SUV, not an RV. They are usually smaller.

Correct...it's only an SUV.

Our SUV is not big. It's a Hyundai Santa Fe and we are just pulling a trailer with the two FJR's on it.

We are so excited about our trip and it would be nice to meet a fellow FJR rider(s) as well....even if you can't accomodate us with the storage. We'll be out there on the 4th of July weekend. I think we're aiming for the afternoon of the 2nd.

If it's only a Santa Fe and a small trailer, you can keep them at my house in the 3rd car slot on the driveway. Is it ok with you if its outside and I'm able to move it if need be?

I'm on the South end of town and it wouldn't cost you anything. I'm on a corner lot and would probably just put the trailer behind the fence.

Do share details about the Colorado part of your trip. DH and I are headed out there in late July. We're riding from CA then staying in a tiny town near Aspen for a week.

Not to hijack this thread, but what part of Denver are you in Steve? I'm over by U-Hills mall. Don't see a lot of FJR's in this part of the world.
