When in neutral when I blip the throttle fast, it sounds like a vibration or grinding sound. Does anyone else have this? Will you try blipping the throttle with a fast turn and see what it sounds like?

Thanks.

My '04 is smooth as butter, no vibration or grinding when I crack/crank the throttle in neutral. Was you bike thoroughly warmed up? Hmmmm....

I got to thinking about this, and realized that mine makes a sound at certain times that is what you may be experiencing. But mine is only under load. If I let the revs drop to around 1500rpms, then roll into the throttle it goes through a very short rpm band that it makes kind of a groaning sound. Hard to describe, but I think it's like an imbalanced induction sound.

I'm guessing it's either natural, or the result of needed the throttle bodies synched. But it only seems to do it when the engine is (in my opinion) being "lugged" too much. In other words, I should really be in a lower gear.

This only happens to me occassionally, and it does not sound like anything to worry about.

My 05 does it. I had the normal 600 mile synk never changed. I ownly have 2400 miles on it it still do's it. The bike ownly do's it in neutral when I brip it fast from 1000 RPM "at idle" . The bike runs perfect. If I rev the bike a little above idle then blip the throttle it never do's. If I ride in any gear a nail the throttle it runs perfect. Of course do not lug it. I live it Lake Havasu and the elevation is ownly 700 feet. I am quessing with 10.8 to 1 compression and the rapid responce of fuel injection and at low elevation we might be hearing Pre-ingition. I noticed when I watched a clip on a FJR with the tick and I think he was demo-ing Hole Shot Slip ons, he would rev the FJR a little above idle before bliping the thottle with normal engine sound. Radman you mentioned this is normal on FJR would you happen to know way.

Radman got it, they all do it!!

If you raise the idle speed to 1500rpm it is gone.

In my opinion, I think it has something to do with

the firing order, crank pin position, and the low

idle speed.

I always like to be nice to my motor. That do's not mean I baby it I don't. Bliping the thottle from nuetral like this,is this not a good thing to do, or do's it matter. And maybe this might start a new thread. Other than owning de-tuned bikes or Harley's why do all at some time or another rev are bikes with clutch in or in neutral. I ownly do as much as I can because I want to be NOTICED and I am COOL!

Normal. They all do it.
Yep! My '04 did it and my '05 does it....so I don't do that anymore. My guess is that Growler has it nailed. Something to do with the crank rotation/position of the pistons and perhaps the timing chain/valve train in a transition once the throttle is suddenly opened.

Rolling on the throttle is a good thing. :D

They all do NOT do this.

Well, My bike does, but it only started after my head was replaced. Before that it didn't do it. It was the first thing I noticed when I picked it up from the dealer.

People have posted about retorquing the motor mounts to get rid of vibration. It never bothered me enough to go through the exercise, but I have been thinking about it lately. I have some weird sloppy sounds being generated when going over bumps that I want gone. I'll be damned if I go back to a dealer for anything other than more valve guides.

Anyway, going through the loosen retorque process may help.

I would think that if it was motor mounts it would do it in gear not for me ownly in neutral. Bike is smooth as glass riding any condition. I also believe it to be a normal condition of the FJR. I still would kinda like to really know why.

+1

My 04 has always done that. I hardly ever blip the throttle in neutral but it only grunts from 1000 rpm in neutral.

All other times (as mentioned above), it purrs like a wildcat.

Note - my TBs are always sync'd and the bike is diligently maintained so it has nothing to do with that.

My '04 does it too, but if you pull in the cluth, it won't make the sound...gets real buttery smooth.

My 05 is the same ,ownly when bliping the throttle in neutral causes the grown. When in gear and clutch in nothiing. And ever other riding condition runs perfect. I wounder if it is in fact shift forks.

Mine does it as well. Makes me uncomfortable so I don't do it.

I also get a vibration from the middle of the engine when rolling on from below 3000 rpm in a very small band around 2800-2900 rpm. This only when rolling on with more than half throttle. I tried retorqueing the bolts, but didn't make a difference.

If above 3k when rolling on wide open, no problems, so that's what I do. ;)
