So what is the standard coming directly from the battery?

I can buy these plugs dirt cheap from autozone. But on one side, the fully insulated female side would be +. On the other side, the exposed male side would be + (so you can match + to + when plugging it in).

I want to install it and have it freefloat under the seat of my motorcycle until I need to use it (for example, to plug in a tire inflator, trickle charge, etc.). But which lead should I make the positive?

I want to make the insulated side positive because it's insulated and if it bumps against something it won't cause a short. But will that match up with what the industry is doing if I were to buy a standard item and try to plug it in? Heated gear, tire inflator, trickle charger, etc. etc.? On the component side, is the male plug intended to be positive?

Excellent. And I FINALLY found a source online that sells the SAE caps to the plugs so I can be doubly safe. 5 bucks for 6 caps, 3 dollars shipping so I bought two packs.
