Just received my cat from competition accessories and looked with interest at the TPX radar detector main console. Any of the wizards out there heard of, used the device. It sounds nice but?

It would be nice to have your thoughts. Thanks, roadhammer

I sent in a comment to the manufacturer. I want a radar detector that's very much like my Zumo. Including:

  • Waterproof (this device appears to have that)
  • Permanent hard wire mount with removeable device (again, appears to have that)
  • Audio out to connect to StarCom1 or similar (this device does not appear to have that)
  • Remote, but permanently mounted front and rear sensors *(this device does not appear to have that)
  • Remote light indicator to go along with helmet audio (this device appears to have it)

* This would be GREATLY beneficial for laser detection, especially if the rear sensor was a bar or other sensor mounted on the license plate. The other would best be placed directly under, in, or otherwise around the headlight. These are the areas I know I point my my lidar when I'm trying to get a reading on a motorcycle, so this would be the most optimal for early detection.

I just bought one last Monday and installed it on Tuesday. Used the "control mount", so mine is just above/behind the brake reservoir. I ordered directly from Adaptiv's site, and used their free shipping. Since they're in NYC, I knew it would still get to WMass quick, and wasn't disappointed.

I haven't had the "pleasure" of testing it against any cruisers yet, but it did warn me about one of those darn trailers that show your speed.

I like that it's all-inclusive, so I didn't have to do hours of research to figure out all the different things I would need to make a car-designed unit work.

It's a little bigger in person than it looks in the pictures, but I like it so far. I'll post some pics once I have a moment and also when it stops raining.

My only question that I have now is when it's off the bike and the plug is hanging out there, what happens when THAT gets wet. They say to remove the detector when you wash the bike, but I'm not sure what that means for the power plug that is now flapping around.

Radio Shack parts bins (the drawers) have rubber caps for these kinds of plugs. I use them to cap my Gerbing plugs in the summer.

  • Waterproof (this device appears to have that) Yes it's rainproof anyway
  • Permanent hard wire mount with removeable device (again, appears to have that)
  • It includes the wires that connect directly to battery
  • Audio out to connect to StarCom1 or similar (this device does not appear to have that)
  • The cable assembly does have an audio output, which probably would work for you
  • Remote, but permanently mounted front and rear sensors *(this device does not appear to have that)
  • I don't think they have it YET, but they have it ready to plug in something like this
  • Remote light indicator to go along with helmet audio (this device appears to have it)
  • There's the wireless audio (which is what I got) and also the LED flashy light display.
