Friends,Just put down my $ for an '06 & coming from a Goldwing I think the

tendency to use a little more wrist will be hard to fend off.Being that the new model

has a power port it will be easy to plug in a radar detector.Could I get some input

on product preference.I would like to find something that preforms well ,but does not cost an arm & a leg. I hope the accessories shelf that Fjr Goodies sell will fit

the new dash layout. All the guys getting '06's will have to hope the aftermarket will be quick about new products. Maybe a "Ram" mount will be OK ,if the shelf doesn't work out. Thanks in advance. Sliick2

I use the Escort 8500. Very happy, highly recommended.

Here is a pic of my cockpit layout. I do not want a "shelf" (I have one on my K1200LTE - much bigger bike) as I do not want it on all the time. With the RAM mounts shown, I can take everything off in a thrice, take off the bags, and I am in sportbike mode.

Don't remember where I saw it, but do a search for Radar Roy's website. He is a wealth of knowledge on detectors, guns, scanners and jammers. I left his site with a strong appreciation for the ESCORT 8500 x50 and the BEL RX 65. I am currently a shopper and do not yet own one, however.

V1 on the FJR, as I can hear it go off at 90mph with the Rifle shield up in the highest position.

Saved me more times than I care to mention on my trip down to the KEys and the Trip to Cali and back in July.

Escort 8500 in the Mercedes, becasue it has a rear view mirror and I can see behind me if it goes off.

Skippy

Of all the detectors that I have tried and used my Valentine1 is by far the best.  I always hated to spend that much money on the Valentine but after finally getting one I realize it would have been much cheaper to get one from the beginning instead of buying all the others and being unhappy with them.
This post most mirrors my sentiments.

The cost of a Valentine One is more than out-weighed by the returned benenfits. And, it's been my experience that it's not just that some radar detector can save you the several and large costs associated with one or more speeding citations.

The V1 "outperforms" other detectors by clearly showing where the detection threats lay, fore, aft and side. I've become able to tell very quickly if the "searching unit" is stationary, moving with me up ahead or behind, or is on-coming. This allows me to choose a prudent speed and keeps me from causing traffic problems in choosing to how quickly I need to get to what speed.

As well, I can quickly weed out "false alarms", warnings that will not present any threat to my pocket book, nor progress down the road.

Those things are so valuable to me that I spent another $400 and carry a spare V1 when I'm out on long distance tours or sport tours. Not only won't I leave home without one, I won't get stranded without one either.

Otherwise, the shelf setup for the '05 FJR just didn't work out for me. It blocked view of things I wanted to see, and did things like played reflective games in my windshield. I use RAM mounts which replace my hydraulic reservoir caps and bols (not the covers as with BMW K-bikes).

"V1 Power", as you might guess, is a Necessity to me. Consequently, it is hard wired to switched power. This is a clean and relatively easy thing to do. Then, V1 output is routed to my Autocom, which requires a Ground Loop Isolator available from Autocom.

Anything less effective than this is just not acceptable given my 40,000 mile per year riding average, and the "Western" pace I travel at.

Best wishes with your choices.

V1, with the audio piped in through my audio system. I found that I couldn't hear the audible warnings otherwise, and where it sits on the brake cover reservoir wasn't enough in my line of sight for the early warnings to grab my attention. It's perfect with the sound piped into my earphones. Love the directional arrows, and it seems to pick up any/every officer in the vicinity if they've got their radars turned on.
