I found this while browsing - it is called a Radar Override - I am pasting the text from the website.

"If you have a portable music source on your bike, such as an iPod or other portable device driving helmet speakers or earbuds, the Radar OverRide allows you to plug a radar detector or GPS into the circuit so that the radar or GPS signal will "Override" the music. When the radar or GPS "Sounds Off", the music will automatically mute so that you can hear the signal or directions.

The Radar OverRide has a normal stereo headphone-style plug for your music device, a socket for your headphones earbuds, and a 4-foot cord with a plug (either 2.5mm or 3.5mm depending on the version) for your radar detector or GPS."

Anyone try this? Reviews? Opinions?

Thanks,

Sam

I haven't used this item, but I did have a complete audio-integration device from Kennedy on my H-D Ultra. Their gear is top-notch and works as advertised.

If it were less expensive (it's $69.95), I might have bought it to be able to hear my radar detector when I'm riding without needing my GPS hooked up, or the intercom (for 2 up) or the bike to bike radio. In those cases (e.g., long trips), the Starcom already does all that, including the radar detector signal override.

I'm just not that thrilled with the Starcom's helmet headset setups, so I often have it out of the helmet and just listen to music via earbuds from the IPod for local rides, in which case, a less expensive version of this RadarOverride thing might be a nice addition, . . . just not for $70. I think I'll renew my efforts to address my Starcom headset issues instead.

I built an audio mixer using $5 of parts from Radio Shack, based on this forum post by jekirby:

Here is the diagram. Please pardon sloppy drawing. I use a tablet pc as an etch-a-sketch.

The box sits under my seat. I plug the Zumo into one input jack, and the V-1 audio unit into the other input. I connect a male->female cable to the output jack, and run it between the seat and the tank, so it's easy to connect my Shure e2c's. It's easy enough to adjust the relative volume of the two units so the V-1 audio alerts come in loud and clear, no matter what's coming in on the Zumo.

I've used this setup for over 25,000 miles, with no problems. Cheap, simple, and effective.

Haven't seen or tried that but I have an AutoComm that does that. I'd think putting that $70 into something that does a lot more would be a better investment... but that's just me!

That looks like a nice little project. I will give it a try! MY GPS is also my music player and the music automatically mutes during GPS direction, so all I need to hear over my music is the radar BRAP, so muting the GPS may not be necessary at all, just as long as I can hear the BRAP!

Thanks!

1. Where did you mount it to shelter it from the rain? I have mine in my Yamaha Tank bag. It's connected to my Garmin 2730 for long trips and my iPhone for daily commuting. I also run my Escort 8500 all the time with this set up.

2. How long does the 9V battery last you on long trips? Say, 10 hours of riding a day? I used 2 batteries on my 5 day trip to Utah. I always have at least 1 spare with me. 9v are not cheap at gas stations.

3. How does it affect sound fidelity? I lose NO sound quality using the Kennedy Override. I also run ER6's with my set up.
