Iron Butts,

Could someone direct me towards a sample ralley package. What do the kits (trip-tiks?) look like. Perhaps there is a pdf somewhere that gives us newbies some more insight into the sport. I read the rules and that is very good material.

Thanks,

Bruce

Warchild gave you links to the big show - understand that most rallies will not be as involved as the IBR and the 11 days of grueling mind screwing that they do to you. But also understand that the way these are given out may be different at each rally.

Some Rally Masters take joy in passing out the packets the night before - knowing that you will stay up all night planning a route that you will now have to ride with an additional 12 hours of no sleep. Other RM's will hand these out 2 hours before the start.

Others will start the rally and THEN hand them out. Nothing like planning your rally and hearing other bikes starting up and leaving out in front of you to get your plan all f'd up.

some rallies will offer you multiple options. The 1088 is famous for giving you 2 to 3 optional routes. Typically one will be the "base" route - one that most people will ride - very scenic, full of picture/receipt opportunities and will cover some of the best roads.

option 2 might be "Big Miles" route - for those who don't want to stop every 150 miles and just want to go for a hard ride.

One year there was option 3 - No Deer route which basically was an almost endless loop from the hotel to the Tabernacle downtown

===

other rallies will give you choices, too. Go for the mountains and fun - or hit the slab and rack up the miles.

some rallies use "threads" - for example - in the IBR there has been a bridge thread. You get say 100 points for a Bridge A, or B, or C or D, but if you add A & B - the points goes to 300 and by adding C you go to 600 and by adding D you get 1000 points. The point of this is to sucker you into something you HAVE to bite on because your are invested so much into it - and will usually screw the pooch somewhere.

This is similar to some of the Dog House bonii in a cognoscenti rally Dog Eat Dog. Other rallies may have events put into them - like shooting a target or coasting races down the side of a mountain - timed sheathing the schlong events. some might also have GPS searches or Monte Carlo rally type events (go 36.8 miles and average 57 MPH and get timed - or take an bearing off a map - and intersect with a given point in X minutes.

some of the stuff is trick - get a time stamp from the one place in the state that is on a different time zone - or get a bonus from Wendover UT - when most folks will stop in Wendover, NV.

sometimes it is just about reading the map and sometimes it doesn't matter.

have fun - be safe - get your reciepts and get back to the barn in one piece.

- timed sheathing the schlong events.
Would you have to be aware of lunging dongs in this case?

I'm unfamiliar with all of the vernacular used by LD riders... but what the h-e- double toothpicks is a "timed sheathing the schlong event", and is it handicapped for race/gender/recent cold showers?

Inquiring minds want to know....

The IBR samples are for made available to the public. The Utah 1088 rally pack is turned back in so aren't going to be available. However, if you combine the style or format given in the IBR pack with some waypoint notes I made on 3x5 cards might help.

lets just say that hand - eye coordination, manual dexterity, rubber sex toys and male contraception devices along with a stop watch might be involved

Good God! What a bunch of sickos!!!!
I feel right at home....
old home week, for sure. when i got hooked up with endurance riders, i finally found a group of folks that understood why i didn't like show-and-shines, sturgis-like posseur-rallies, or even stpending another 45 minutes at yet another gas station.

that they also had a twisted sense of humor was icing on the cake.

Get your map program out.

Starts May 27 2006, at 6:00 AM at 334 Arsenal Rd, York, PA.

You've got 30 hours to get as many of these as you can.

https://www.masondixon20-20.org/2006/boni06.htm

Depending what class they put you in you need to rack up 1313 miles. 25 point penalty each way, again depending on the class the rally master put's you in.

I'm not riding it this year. I think the winner will have just short of 14,000 points, and close to 2,000 miles.

That's in the northeast on Memorial day weekend.
