I've enjoyed reading the progress reports from the SPANK rally, with the exception of the rider fatality...my condolences to the family...and would like a little rallying basics info on how they operate. It appears to be a basic time and distance plus the bonuses. How does that all come together? As a rider, how do you plan a route to maximize the bonuses? What's the best way to get involved?

I just ran the BL IIII.

My method was to enter all the boni into S&T's, decide how many mile's I wanted to do in the time allowed and try to work a route around those two thing's. It hasn't been much different for the shorter rally's.

I did not get a high score on any of the leg's. I could see the route's the big dogs would run, but it was to much for me.

I was there at the end however. "A consistent effort will be rewarded", that's what I heard at the rider's meeting, and tried to remember that when I was planning the first leg, hoping to have something left for the third leg.

They just had a 10 hour rally up here in Maine. If you think you can do 24 hours then try that. I think you just need to go out and try it. Don't place to many expectations on yourself. Just try to finish, and give yourself a bit of a challenge. There are some real animal's out there. You'll find out who they are at the finisher's banquet when the cheescake fall's out of your mouth when you hear what they pulled off.
