Canadian Tire has a gel seat pad on sale for 75% off.....$9.95. I bought one yesterday, threw it on the seat (fits not bad) and went for a 3 hour ride. 1st impression was higher, wider and kinda mushy. Then we sorta conformed to each other and it works. One side is that anti-slip pebbled rubber, so it stayed put. After I got used to it my butt thanked me, it kills vibration and is a nice cushy. Not a custom seat but for ten bucks a definite improvement for longer rides. The chunk of gel inside could also be used for higher tech applications.

'Crappy Tire'

They often sell out of items like this, if so, get a raincheck and get one or more later.

Update: I re-read the description on the website, the pad I bought does not have contoured foam, it is simply a uniformly thick piece of waffled gel about 15" x 16" in a zippered cover. Probably an error on the website? Also not-in-Canada riders should be able to buy online if they wish.

Good for you that you found something that you like.

Just my thought, I found that putting anything on top of the stock seat was a short term fix but didn't work in the end.

The stock seat in the end is pretty much crappy and built for good showroom looks and makes it easy for the rider to put his feet down when stopped. Most motorcycle seats are built with that in mind. Marketing.

Drapping anything over the stock seat will still give the same support area of the stock seat because excess will hang over the sides. These add-ons, will increase the comfort area of the stock seat but still don't support the outer areas (i.e. thighs) and still have you on your tailbone.

I'm not slamming your attempts or idea, just giving info.

I think it was in the book, "Total Control" by Lee Parks, where he said that even an old metal tractor seat is more comforatble than most motorcycle seats because of the "area" of support it gives.

If it works for you great.

Thanks, going to check this out for missus, she's not a big fan of the rear seat.

I don't view it as a 'fix' but as an inexpensive improvement.

BTW I went and bought another one for the bottom of my topbox. I'm taking the cover off and using the just the gel to give my laptop a vibration reduced ride when it commutes with me to Vancouver.
