No, this is not about anyone's anatomy.

Pilot Road 2s

I kinda expected to wear out the rear tire before the front but.....

Front and rear installed at the same time ? Sounds like there is something wrong here.... suspension problems, brake issues, bad front tire, front bearings going, etc...

A couple thoughts here.

1. Is there a picture of the rear tire? It would be nice for comparison purposes.

2. I am more surprised that the right side wore out before the left. Conventional wisdom is that the left side of the front goes first.

Obviously the first question is how much air pressure are you running?

PR2 fronts wear out at 8500k on my bike and 10500 on the rear. This is a tire issue as Bridgestones 023GT wear out at about the same time for me, 8000 front and rear. Also the FJR carries about 51% of the weight on the front tire.

I don't understand the purpose of this thread. OP indicates the front wore out before the rear but no pic of the rear. The pic provided is of a tire that should have been replaced many miles prior and imho shows blatant disregard for safe riding. If a joke, I do not think anyone is taking it that way...

OP help us out here.

front at 8K rear at 11K for me on the PR2 - every pair of tires I ever put on the fjr, I wore the front first

try running the rear tire in the front and the front tire in the rear

11,000 miles out of a rear tire!!??

Sheesh I don't know HOW some of you guys get so many miles out of the rear??

I get "maybe" 5,500 at "most" out of any rear I've ever used.

and yes I keep the pressure high in the rear.

I've had many bikes, the only bike I ever had that would wear out the front first, was my K1200LT beemer which was a front heavy beast. On my FJR's I get 6K-11K front and 3K-9K on the back....Yes I do use my front brake.

I ride like a tourist, I rarely use the brake approaching a turn, preferring to roll off the throttle instead. I don't ride fast or hard- it is simply a preference. Usually I am 5+ mph and don't accelerate hard. This riding style got 10,500 on my rear PR2's. I use 42 psi front and rear.

FWIW Dad and I were just looking at his maintenance logs a couple hours ago. He is getting a new set of PR3s Friday along with some other issues. His tire wear is pretty even front/rear and he has 9300 miles on the PR3s. As Fontanaman said, 42 psi in both. Riding hard enough to enjoy it, slow enough to sightsee. Pop is 68 years old and does not drag his pegs very often anymore.

Edit: The PR3s with 9300 miles are not "worn out" like what is in that pic. I know there is life left in them but with all the rain we get down here, tread depth is important.

Why was this tire not replaced 500-1000 miles ago? Does this guy do a loop to work and back that is all right-handers?

I just hit the wear bar on my rear PR2 at 9500. And I got over 12K out of my last front. I commute at 80+ daily, and am fairly aggressive in the corners both commuting and on weekend rides. I don't go 2-up, and I go about 210# myself. Are you guys mega aggressive to wear out your tires so quick? I don't understand.

My 2006 Trumpet Sprint ST1050 used to wear the front and back together, I hated replacing both tires at the same time.

Ok that explains it.

My last set of tires both wore out on the right side on the last trip to EOM. I never saw that much difference before with all those straight and boring roads down there, and I did not think I did that much more right handers than left. As for rears wearing out first, I think that's all in the right wrist... I tend to get a good rolling starts so don't tend to burn up rear tires.

This is just my experience but twisty driving wears out the right front side before the left. I assume it's caused by the tighter radius of right handers. I try to use mostly engine braking into turns with brisk acceleration out which torches rears. However, it's not hard to imagine hard braking into turns and trail braking, mostly carried on the front tire, would wear down fronts plenty quick.
