Hello,

Just sold my FZ1 and purchased an 03 FJR. Love the bike. Only problem so far is the rear brake pedal sticks slightly. I have to pull it up the last 1/4 inch with my toe. Nothing on the pedal is binding that I can see. The spring is still attached. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Thanks.

First time I have ever heard of that happening. Is the spring worn out? I would try putting a 2nd spring, or a stronger one on there and see what happens.

Other than that, how is the motion of the lever/brake master cylinder? Smooth? Or is it rough, or does it bind or hang up?

Remove pedal and master assembly, disassemble, clean, and lube the pedal shaft. Often ignored, subject to grunge and the resulting sticking you describe.

Actually, the sticking peddle is not that uncommon. Highrailer's description matches how other people have described it. The 'problem' is so minor that most riders don't notice it. The sticking peddle is usually discovered when someone is troubleshooting accessories such as a cruise control that won't set speed. Rad's got the answer. My peddle needs cleaning and a lube job for a second time.

The owners manual says to lube that brake pedal every 4K miles or 6 months. I'll bet nobody's doing that!

One further note - the cleanser you use to wash the bike can affect lubrication intervals of items such as the brake pedal. I used S100 in the past for quick clean up, and it was an excellent cleaner/degreaser. Only problem is it also dissolved lube from places where you wanted it, like the brake pedal shaft, centerstand pivot, etc. Eventually I quit using S100 because I was tired of chasing all the squeaks and sticking parts.
