Okay, another question.

The hydraulic line from the rear brake pedal is not fastened to anything. It disappears under the seat area into "what looks like a fuel filter" & then onto places unknown. The "filter thingy" isn't fastened down... it just sorta hangs there. Is this proper?

I'm trying to sort out everything on the bike so please excuse the rather dumb or obvious questions.

Thank you.

Pictures would be immensely helpful in this situation...

:dribble: Did you unhook anything? If you did hook it back up! Do the rear brakes work? I'm not near my bike (05) but I seem to recall a relief/drain tube on the right as well as left side. Other than that you got me!

Take a look at the pictures in this link, and tell us if anything looks like your loose "thingy"

Spiegler line install

Maybe this?

On the non-abs bikes the hose from the caliper should go down to the master-cyclinder near the pedal's axle. There's the reservoir under the right side panel, above the master cyclinder. There shouldn't be any type of filter that I know of.

I'm guessing the "filter thingy" is actually a fluid reservoir. The rear master cyl has no fluid capacity at all-it needs a fluid source to operate. Thats what the reservoir is for-it supplys fluid to the master cyl via gravity, in that it is mounted higher than the cylinder. It has a bracket using a single screw that mounts above and to the rear of the master. This pic shows the reservoir location nicely, you can see the forward edge of the tail plastic pointing right at it. Both ABS and non have the same location-the pressure line runs from the master cyl to the ABS control unit, then from it to the rear caliper.

Awesome! Thank you.

The bracket must be broke or missing. I can grab hold of the rubber hose & pull on it. The reservoir "thingy" is just big enough that it doesn't pull out. But it is loose.

The brake works fine.

The bike goes into the shop next Tuesday for new tires, oil change & to replace the left side engine cover. I'll have the shop check into the reservoir problem.

Thanks all!

My next project will be to install an external connector plug for a trickle charger.
