rear diff oil ?

what kind of differental oil are you guys using ? Yamaha dealer dosent carry yamalube or whatever the book calls for..

cant be much different than what honda or bmw use is it?

how about mobil 1 synthetic? what weight do you think the Yamaha oil is ?

I use the recomended Yamaha whale jizz. If the Yamaha dealer doesn't have it, I'd be looking for another dealer. It tells me there not following the manual when they fix your scoot.

I changed from the Yami stuff to some Bel-Ray Gear saver 80-90 which seemed to work great. But since I switched the motor's oil to Amsoil 10-40 synthetic I thought I would try some Amsoil 80-90 synthetic for the FD. Some use the heavier stuff but this should work fine. I haven't actually went for a ride yet since the change but it makes me feel good knowing it's in there when I do.....Man I love oil threads. Thanks! PM. <>< :yahoo:

Don't use the BMW stuff.....look what it does to their final drives!

I've used the Honda gear lube with no problems

Search google "final drive oil site:fjrforum.com" You can change this part "final drive oil" to whatever you want to search for.

I think this has been talked about many times before. This is not a place to just post and hope for an answer. We would like you to search and try to find and answer before posting. Don't use the search on this site it sucks.

BTW, anyone know the weight of the Yammi FD oil? I dont recall it being listed on my container and was wondering if it might be a different viscosity than the M1 75w-90.

Just make life simple by getting the yammie stuff. Then you won't second guess the decision. And you can use all the time you didn't spend for this to research other important things like what gps unit to get, where to install your fuse block, should you mount a scooter tire on your bike, how to have sex on the bike with the rear-stand engaged, is it safe to lick chocolate off the gas tank, how to mount a turbo charger on the engine, is it moronic to transform the bike into a trike?

You can order the yamaha stuff with part number: 9079E-SH001-00

But i also seen posted somewhere on here, that the generic rating equivilant to the yamaha stuff above would be SAE 80 API GL-4 Hypoid Gear Oil...Hope that was helpful...

I bought the semi-synthetic walmart brand 75-90wt and it seems to work just fine. Everything looked great last time I changed it. $2

God, these are great. Use good gear oil. Period. It's two gears meshing in there.

Don't use sewing machine oil. It's too light.

Don't use fork oil. It's too light.

Don't use engine oil. It's still too light.

Don't use cooking oil. It's just wrong.

Don't use wheel bearing grease. It's too heavy.

Use gear oil. Exact viscosity is totally irrelavant.

This is even easier than engine oil. In the engine, don't use "Energy Conserving." Anything else goes. In the drive, use gear oil. If it says gear oil, it's for gears. The final drive has gears. That'll work.

Amsoil has a "Severe Gear" 75w-90 I believe. My Amsoil dealer called Yamaha to check out what they used before he recomended it.
