What is it good for...absolutely nothing.....well maybe to hold a top case....anyway other than strapping down things like a tent or sleeping bag of what use is it? How can you really use it for the kind of soft luggage(other than a roll bag) that I use on other bikes or for that matter on my Wing? I like to be able to grab my bag and have everything in one place....yes I know there are bags on the bike but I like to bring things back. :) How do you guys strap down soft luggage? I'm planning a trip to Alaska and really would like to take the FJR rather than the Wing but it seems almost like I need to buy one of those top cases...I'm not interested in that. I need something like this:

When planning this trip it will be done over 4 weeks so all space must be used wisely. Any way to attach a bag like this and be sure it will stay on the bike? Any help from you long distance guys would be appreciated.

I have a bag similar to the one you are showing. I strap it down to the passenger seat and then put my tent and sleeping bag across the rack and strap them all together. It works ok if you have no passenger but, the best way to go is to get an after market rack that is really designed to carry stuff. Go to the vender’s section. There are some racks offered there that should work much better.

Maybe you need to buy a Harley  My brother has a Fat Boy HD with a sissy bar and his suitcase slips down on to it. Pretty slick for a ship anchor of a bike.

That is one sad looking avatar. ...and I thought I looked fat on a bike. That guy has to be 500 lbs.

Do a search for luggage rack on this site. Member Garauld makes an awsome luggage rack. Mine is custome built with a Corbin style backrest mount. The workmanship is great and it's painted to match the bike perfect.

Hi Radical, zzzzip used one of my racks for this:

:clapping:

Send me a PM and I should be able to fix you up with something to suit your needs. Cost of one in black w/o the backrest is $150 + shipping. You can see more details in the Vendor area... ;)

I have one of garauld's racks with back rest on my 05 painted to match. I love it. Tourmaster wheeled travel case fits nicely. More room than you'll ever need.

We offer three different sizes of racks for all model years. Choose the size that works best for your needs. All our racks allow you to mount a Givi topcase to them if you wish and our opitional backrest can be added any time. We have just added the ability to mount our forthcoming helmet locks underneath our racks. Please find out more by visiting our website where you see pictures of all the rack and order directly from our website. All of our racks are in stock and can ship immeadiatley.

I use one of Geraulds racks also with this Nelsen-Rigg tail trunk on it. But for a good laugh you have to check out this website ....Do you think they may have made a small pricing error?? If I remember correctly I think I paid around $70.00.
