Just upgraded front suspension on my 09, I am feeling out options for the rear now. I am leaning toward buying the stock genIII shock for 430 from one of the discount OEM sellers, but would be interested in hearing what anyone else has got lying around.

I found a very lightly used Gen III from a forum member for a good deal, swapped it on (pretty easy to do), been happy with the results. At $430 for a new one I think it's a pretty good value considering costs of aftermarkets, and I think the GEN II oems' used to be over $600.

Yep, I am willing to buy a new OEM GEN III shock if need be. But just wondering if anyone has either a slightly used GEN III shock (non ES), or a used aftermarket option that I can mull over..

Just throwing in that I find the '14A shock is quite acceptable so far..... I am impressed and that's me coming off an aftermarket on my '07........ very compliant with bumpy roads, damping seems OK... not yet tested in the real twisty stuff.

Yep, I know it'll make me as happy as the GP front end has. Gonna pull the trigger in the next couple days.

Good luck and just adding to what others have already said, the Gen3 shock is leaps and bounds better than the Gen2 shock. It is worth the money to make the upgrade especially if your '09 is getting a bit tired.

Yep saw the Penske For sale. Its sprung too low for me, by about 40 lbs. (not that I am overweight or anything, I am at 210, that things sprung for a 175 lb guy.

The Ebay sales off the police bikes sound great, will look into it. But I want a Gen III shock, it's not clear from their ebay ad this time around that they are gen III.

Thanks guys.

I'm going to second that. That penske is a steal. Never mind that it's rebuildable, but if you trade rides, you can also have the penske built for that ride assuming it's a monoshock as well.

I would buy the Penske for what he's asking and have it resprung for a little more, than buy a stock shock. Companies like Traxxion Dynamics can swap the spring for you.

PM sent to Penske guy. Though the math isn't working out perfectly to me. if the shock needs a complete service (it might) that'd be $200 or so. plus a spring would be $100 or so. That puts me at $775..

I could buy a new (and better model) Penske kinda close to that, right?

Yea, the "If it needs complete service" part does make it moot.

Looks like $825 from Penske for the lowest shock. Not sure about other retailers. Incremental price changes of around $125 to get you up to the $1250 super duper bad boy.

IMO, they tend to spring higher then the riders weight, always configured for adding a passenger, so you might be right on the money...

Worth a try.

Nice, how many miles on your old one? I had 60K when I swapped in my Penske and I'm in love.

When I had my front end debacle, I ended up having Traxxion handle the rebuild of my front end. I asked about getting the front end upgraded while it was there. Their first question was "What aftermarket shock do you have?" When I told them it was stock, they told me that as much as they'd like to sell me extra stuff, that I needed to get the back end done first or it'd be very noticeable. From your experience it sounds like that is correct. I recently lucked out on a hell of a deal from a friend and did front and rear all together. With your new front and rear, you are gonna love it.
