I've seen the photos and description on how to do the lube job on the Tech board. What I cant tell is how the bike is suspended from the pipe frame. I dont see a good place to attach the supporting straps to support the weight. Any suggestions from those who have been there?

I removed the mufflers, two bolts each. Ran a steel bar across under the passenger peg brackets and SLOWLY raised each side, one click at a time on the jackstands, with my floor jack. Be SURE to fasten the bar to the peg brackets; if it falls over, IT'S YOUR FAULT!!

I also found it easier to cut off two bolt heads instead of loosening the exhaust system (centerstand brackets). Put the new bolts in from the inside so they don't hit the pipes next time. HOWEVER, the bolts will be too long and need to be shortend to clear the exhaust. I even had to 'narrowize' the stock castle lock nuts, they're almost 1/2" tall and you don't have 1/2" to work with.

Well, it made sense to me. :cownoy:

I HATED THIS JOB. Tightest nuts and bolts I've ever found on a motorcycle and I was working on the floor. :dribble:

Sounds like a good job for the dealer service department, just that you would like to know that everything was done, and reinstalled correctly.

heh, many people around here would view that as the reason _not_ to have the dealer do it. <_<

YMMV, though.

The only time I ever took my bike in they bashed it into the door frame on the way into the shop. I definitely don't want them fooling around with the mission-critical components.

I just used soft ties around the rear subframe where the seat goes. I ran one soft tie around each square frame member (L and R as you sit on the bike).

In the above photo, the soft ties would go to the right of the large cross member and to the left of the smaller one just aft of the tool tray.

I then ran ratchet straps (tie downs) to the loops in the soft ties and up to the "Sky Hook".

Thanks for the tips. I like the idea of the subframe but will explore the possibility of the passenger peg brackets too.

Hope my nuts aren't as tight as yours.........
