I just wanted to thank the forum in general for helping out with technical questions and selling me parts. I saved a lot of money between forum members and U motors. I really don't think I ever would have taken on a rebuild like this without knowing that I could ask questions and get good info on the forum. (I feel like I won a grammy!)

Total for rebuild so far... $1775.

Still some minor cosmetic damage that I don't plan to fix. Maybe a sticker or something.

That and some scratches on the Front Fender.

Only thing left is the rear subframe, which is functional for now, just can't put on the trunk. I have one on its way!

As far as the scratched luggage rack goes, consider what I did: I sprayed it with a black truck box liner like material. Looks fine, is very durable and if you get more scratches from bungees or whatever, just pull it off and shoot another coat.

Oooooh..... Good idea! The trunk rack is black anyway. You don't happen to have a picture of that do you?

I have some images somewhere but it would take too long to find them, and I think most would have my soft tailpack mounted back there anyway. My '03 was stolen and totalled, although all damage was cosmetic (every painted surface was marred), so it was completely restored and I had it re-painted in the R1-red. The black luggage rack looks fine, even as it would have on the original silver, and goes good with the Corbin seat. It has a nice semi-glossy finish and looks factory. We didn't actually use a truck-bed liner material, but something quite similar. My brother-in-law did the restoration and he was at the same time restoring, frame-up, a 1969 Camaro RS. This was surplus from that job. It is the black stuff you spray to line and seal the inside of the trunk area. It holds up to abuse from my tailpack bungee hooks, too. I have read here that some have used the same material or similar for that painted piece below the radiator that gets sandblasted by the front wheel.
