Hey I was up their three weeks ago. We started over in Paradise and trecked across. Really pretty area up there.

We're thinking about heading to Oscoda next weekend, though not as picturesqe still plenty of riding area.

Oh nice pics too.

Jestal, what a cool post for this western bound no-snow zone person. Very informative. I first read the post, 1,000 miles, and 'BullS#%t'. So do they have, uh, the equivalent of truck stop babes on these so-called snow trail highways? :dribble:

uh, Don, most of those "Truck stop babes" are either guys in drag or, if they're pretty, cops. Watch yourself.

J, what do you guys wear for the temps and activity?

I used to live in the UP as a kid. (air force brat) Last time I had a ride on one of those was when a blizzard hit while we were at school and the snow-mobile club had to come to our rescue and take us home.

Man! That looks like a freakin blast! I'd love to sled the UP or Canada sometime. Used to ride sleds way back in the 70's as a kid. That was just through plowed fields of Central Ill though. I've heard about the trail system up there before, sounds like a hoot.

A guy I know just moved back to Dauphin, MB and was out sledding with some old buddies. One of those guys has a Yamaha sled with the R1 motor in it with a TURBO CHARGER!! Something like 450 HP! Unreal. But I'd do it!

But what do you guys do for clothing? Use any electrics? How do you go about carrying overnight gear? Those things have saddle bags? :D

Jestal,

Really enjoyed reading your post and checking out the pics. There are so many facets of life in the US that many of us will probably never experience and its great to hear about them from others.

Jeez, my last snowmobile was a single lung Ski-Doo that you steered by leaning and rebuilt every other weekend.

Here in Grand County Colorado, snowmobiles are what keep the town of Grand Lake from becoming a ghost town. Most people do not make it past the Winter Park Ski area. We have a extensive trail system in different parts of the county. Unfortunally you can not go from one side of the county to the next. Today I went out as part of Search and Rescue call for two snowmobile accident. Only one of the parties had to be brought out Search and Rescue. We are getting to the crowded time of the year with all the spring break people for the next two months.

Then the roads will dry up over night and I can ride the bike. :yahoo:

Thanks for the report Jestal. Just got back from riding some of the 2 1/2 feet of snow Vermont got this past Wednesday. Now we need the groomers to get out.

Tom

Interesting read. I remember the early snow mobile days. It's great that they have groomed trails. There were lots of bad accidents in the early days, hitting large rocks and other obstructions hidden by the snow and also hitting or getting hit crossing highways.
