When i moved to n.c in july of 07 i regisitered my 2 cars and 1 bike the young ladyat the d.m.v told me i had 14 days to get the cars inspectied ,When she gave me back the bike regi she did not say anything so i thought no inspection in n.c . Was talking to a freind on my block and he was saying one of hes co workers does inspections on bikes .I call the yamaha bike shop in statesville and the service guy says YES $9.12 . I take a ride by ask him to listen for the tick his answer was i really dont here anything and your yes runs out in 09 so dont worry about it . So while i am waiting i see the 08 kawasaki and the 08 fjr looks nice except for the very small windscreen . I go see a saleperson and ask for a trade in for the o8 after doind the numbers he comes back with 7500 for my bike and $15500.00 for the 08 i say no way i counter with $6500 plus my bike . HE tells me i cant go back to my boss with that offer last year we sold 5 bikes at whole sale i put on my jacket and helmet and he waves wait i will give it a try comes back 5 minutes later its a no go .

It's only 460 miles from Mooresville, NC to Cullman, AL - take a trip to D&H. You'll certainly get a great price on an '08 there.

Best deal possible? Sell your bike. Go make a deal with no trade at D&H. You will not be able to get a better deal than by doing that. If you trade in, plan on losing a good chunk of money.

I traded the 05 with the local stealership for the 07. Overall, it cost me $1,100 more than purchasing from D&H and selling my 05 myself. There's no way to avoid it costing you $$$ to trade-in.

I had reached an impasse with heat on the 05 and just could not afford to purchase the 07 outright without financing. You have to consider your time, interest impact (if any), and oh yeah... the new bike comes with new tires!

:)

Which last you about, what... a week?
Naw, I bought the 07 on January 31st. It took me two days to re-farkle the bike and the weather was cold, rainy and yuck. I think they lasted to Valentine's Day.

I do still remember the look on the salesperson's face when I picked up the bike on Wednesday and tried to make a Friday appointment with Service for the 600-mile maintenance.

:)

In high sales tax states like here in WA, it makes sense to carefully calculate trade-in vs personal sales costs. When you trade a bike in for a new one here you only pay sales tax on the difference in price. If you sell the bike yourself, then you'll end up paying sales tax on the full sales price of the new bike. So if the dealer is only low balling you by a few hundred dollars (depending on the value of your trade), it might still be cheaper to trade in.

For example, my $4000 trade in I had for the FJR would cost me an additional $352 in sales tax (8.8% here). Because the dealer only offered me $3200, I figured it was worth selling it to save me $448.

I bet it took you ten minutes to type that out, NOT including the re-read time to make sure you didn't eff it up. :)

Actually, I think I hurt myself. I'm a touch typist and I think I dislocated my spacebar thumb trying to keep it off the bar. My spell checker just packed up and has gone seeking a job with Apple.

You peps should know my penmenship sucks by NOW !!!
I did not know that your penmenship sucked and even if I did, I would not try and correct you on it because of something that some wise-ole boys taught me on the job. "If there ain't nothing in it for you then keep your mouth shut and don't say anything about it". Ie., that means what tha hell am I going to gain from trying to make light of something you said or did?
