I am leaving next Tuesday on a nine day ride from Norcal through Nevada and into Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. I will be V1 equiped, but if anyone knows the habits of the LEO's in Nevada, Utah and northern Arizona, please share. Are aircraft used in these states? Any other info will be appreciated.

I've been from Sacramento and across Nevada on I80 to SLC more times than I can remember. I'll be running over to Park City next month myself. BTW, no tickets. Ever.

From Sac to Reno I've been hit with all kinds of radar including instant on and laser. I try to keep the speed down where I can't see more than a mile or so of open road ahead. Curves and trees hide Johnny and his radar signal. I also key off the truckers. If they're speeding, they usually know something.

The road's still pretty curvy past Reno to Fernley, same logic but I've never been hit till Fernley. From Fernley to the SLC is radar detector paradise, big open spaces and you can see forever. You'll get little squacks miles before you get hit full on. General rule, slow down about 10-15 miles either side of all the towns and pay attention to the little squacks. They usually lead to something bigger. I saw a NHP cruiser in the median west of Elko pointing up and straight across the road. I didn't pick up his radar till I came abreast of him. But I could see him for over a mile before that. Moral: Just because you have a detector doesn't mean you don't have to look. :D

Inside BFE Utah (I can say that, I'm from there) :bleh: it's hit and miss, mostly hit. Big time traffic revenue state. For instance, from Park City to Heber City it's about 15 miles. I usually see no less than 4 UHP/Sheriff's in that streatch, 24/7. <_<

Don't know if aircraft are used or not but I've never had a problem.

Can't help ya here, Jeff, but have a safe and fun ride - lucky *******! :D Pictures, lots of pictures or I'll sic skooter on you! ;)

By the way, I came home to get some stuff for the weekend ride and the cord was waiting for me on my stoop! Maximum beepage through the Starcom! Thanks, dude!

So, is Utah big on radar, or do they mostly use other means?

When in Utah you may want to carry a deck of trading cards of Donie and Marie Osmond. Than you have a way to deal with the LEO and be able to barter your ticket with. This may help or may not. :haha:

Went through Utah last year Lots of LEO's entering SLC on #80 and they hide pretty good and do not mind giving tickets. Saw locals pulled over.

Good luck on your trip waiting for your ride report when you ge back about the southern part of Utah.

Utah uses radar and though I'm never noticed aircraft tracking the roads, I wouldn't rule that out. Pays to look up from time to time.

Also, just like in CA, Utah uses cars that aren't immetiately recognizable as cops. Pays to look for antennas and lights in the back window before blasting past. Getting a ticket from a gimpy old fat guy in a Camaro with Tweetie Bird graphics only adds insult to injury. No ****, Centerville has a Camaro with Loony Tunes graphics.

Utah also uses a little known but highly effective means of controlling speeders. It's called "free range". Yep, probably most who have run the Utah 1088 will report encounters with bovine as well as the normal beasts which call Utah home. A good friend of mine hit a cow (at night) on his Concours while running the 1088 a few years ago. Two years later he hit a porcupine class animal on his Buell which took the front wheel out from under him in the middle of a sweeper. I personally have had had similar encounters. Also, beware of deposits left on the road by the aforementioned critters. Even a new set of scrubbed in Avons won't help you if you hit a fresh pile (don't ask how I know this) in the apex of a turn!! Now that I've induced paranoia, have a great trip Jeff and be sure to take some pics! :D
