I want to lknow how involved a job it is to remove and inspect the sidestand switch on a 2004 FJR (non-ABS). I looked at it and see two phillip head screws seem to hold it in place. Problem is it looks like I have to drop the exhaust manifold to get at these screws with a driver. Anyone attempted this and know the easiest way going about doing it? I really don't want to mess with the exhaust system because that can lead to whole different set of problems. Plus does the sidestand itself have to be removed? Any help appreciated.

If you just want to find out if it is working or not all you have to do is start the bike up and put it in gear with the sidestand down. The engine will stop if it is functioning. Inspection complete.

Remove the side stand, the switch will come with it. It's just two bolts but you will need a BIG wrench to get the bolts moving.

Go to diAG code #20, read the bottom of the diAG screen -- Side stand extended = OFF; Side stand retracted - ON

There were some earlier posts about FJR's stalling out when at a stop and someone said if the sidestand switch gets corrosion or moisture it may not function properly and break the ignition circuit, stalling the engine. That is why I want to dissemble the switch to inspect the spring because if it is rusty it can malfunction.

After a long winter, my bike wouldn't start today. After reworking the clutch switch (nice and shiney now), I took of the sidestand switch. The spring isn't returning any more. I tried some oil to free it up, to no avail. Are there any tricks besides replacing it?

I guess my bad for not putting it on the center stand. That's my lesson learned after replacing it.
