Removing Bar End Inserts

I removed one bar end (throttle side) without problems but on the second one the rubber insert pulled out leaving the metal cyclinder in the bar end. Anyone have an idea how to remove the metal insert? This is the 4th FJR I have removed the inserts without problems to install Throttlemeister bar ends. I am thinking about using a 20mm drill to drill out the insert.

try light heat in the end of the bar and an inner bearing race puller if you have one.

Didn't the TM come with a puller? Really all it is is a bolt that threads through the insert and a washer that's bikker than the bar. That will force the insert to move towards the bar end. The last bit may be a bitch, but a rubber mallet should work just fine.
