I've done in some yrs ago and now cannot remember how to remove that trim piece at botton edge of the tank. I removed the threaded fasteners but cannot figure out how to loosen the leading edge. Does it have a rubber grommet holding it? Your capable help will be most appreciated. Tks.

Yes, rubber grommet near the front. Pull gently as there is a slot a tab slides into before the grommet is set. Easy to get off, just unnerving.

Good luck!

for 2013, but basically the same as your bike.

Bit late, but try these "in the flesh" pics (click on image for larger view)

Remove hex screw at the top, plastic rivet at the bottom

Front pulls out, rear slides back and off

I use a bit of petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline) to lubricate the rubber when I put it on, makes the tabs slide in and out much more easily.

Mcatrophy's got it covered but the important thing to remember is

don't slide without pulling and don't pull without siding.

If you get it off without incident you'll see what I meant.

It was rather sneaky of Yamaha to combine four different fasteners

on one trim piece. I broke a tab off mine because I forgot the sequence.

Thanks for all the assists. I got it off without any damage or broken parts. I used silicone stick to lube the grommets when putting it back on. As info, the reason I removed the OEM trim is to replace it with a black one which I had on my 07. The black really looks good against that candy red tank!!!

Let's see a picture of that.
