Does anyone have any experience in renting FJR's in Europe? I'm thinking about going late summer, and I would like any advice or input from people that have done it, or know something about it.

I haven't decided yet. Any place looks good to me.
I asked because i looked into renting in the UK, You can rent an FJR from a place close to Heathrow and they will allow you to ride it on the european mainland.

skifrik and Fairlaner: Richard, since I last talked to you at Park City, Utah in July about European FJR Rentals, I've discovered that Ad-Mo Rentals is now making our FJR 1300's available at many of their outlets. When we, Dr. Bob and I, booked our BMW's for Stef's-teerex51's, Pyrenees trip last October none of the Ad-Mo agencies had our FJR's for rental use.

But they are now available from Amsterdam to Roma. But, it's too late me now to switch from a BMW R1200GS to the FJR!

When you do figure out what city you want to rent from, Google up the local Yam dealers and ask who in the area rents.

Be warned that you normally pay by size and a 1300 will cost. While they can do it, big-bore bikes with bags can also be awkward threading traffic in European towns, especially in Parisian roundabouts and such. Unless you're doing the autobahn long distance or the Alps, you might consider a Beemer 800, V-Strom 650, or similar.

skifrik: Checkswrecks is giving you excellent advice! I was stationed at the foot of the Alps for two years at Reese Kaserne in Augsburg and my BMW R60/2 and I could be up in the mountains within an hour from my garrison. Smaller is better!

My Arizona BMW Club returns to Europe every year to ride with myself as the Tour Director. www.azbeemers.org/forum

One of the best motorcycle deals in Europe that we have discovered over the last twenty years is Knopf Motorradreisen.

https://knopftours.com Stefan Knopf provides the most inexpensive rates on European bike rentals that we have ever seen.

His very best deal is on the fleet of BMW K75 motorcycles that he owns. He has a minimum of nine of these 750cc shaft drive machines and they are perfect for the tight hairpins and demanding switchbacks of the Alps, Dolomites or Pyrenees.

Also as Checkswrecks has stated, the BMW K75 is outstanding at threading traffic in European towns, a handful with an FJR!

Stefan's shop is in Heidelberg, sixty kilometers south of Frankfurt's Rhein Main International Airport. Easy 1-hour train ride.

He rents these K75's for only $550 for the 1st week and $500 for subsequent weeks. Expect to pay 3 times that for an FJR!

The only drawback to the K75 is that they won't run comfortably over 200 kmh on the autobahns. But 120 mph gets tiring!
