My plan is to leave Spearfish on Wednesday,September 14th, and head West.

Probably via Cody, Chief Joseph, assuming no snow, duck through the park, North and on to Helena or Missoula for the night.

Thursday I plan to do Lolo pass, then to Lewiston ID before turning South and heading down WA 129 and OR 3 to Enterprise OR.

From Enterprise I'm thinking about heading West on OR 82 to La Grande then to OR 244 and SW to Ukiah OR.

From Ukiah heading South on US 395 to Mt Vernon OR before turning West on OR 26 for the run across OR to Bend and onto La Pine.

EDIT: After spending Monday doing some maintenance with FJRay, I have until Friday Morning to get to Port Hueneme CA to pick up a truck for a friend. I'll load my FJR into the back of the truck for the run home to Spearfish.

I've done RT 1 several times North of SF but have not done it South of SF on a bike.

Looking for comments or Ideas for the planned run across Oregon and suggestions or ideas for Tuesday through Thursday in California.

John

From Mt Vernon after lunch at the Silver Spur go east to John Day and go south on 395 to 380 and follow it east to Prineville. From Prineville take 27? Along the Crooked river. After you cross the dam the next right will take you into Bend. It's a mile or three past the dam. If you get to dirt you went to far.:) :) :) . Leave John Day with a full tank.

When you get to Lewiston, take a run up/down the Old Spiral Hwy. It runs between ID 128 and US 95. Beware of tar snakes up at the top and stop for pics at the sign.

Thursday I plan to do Lolo pass, then to Lewiston ID before turning South and heading down WA 129 and OR 3 to Enterprise OR.

Any route that doesn't go through Burns Hines sounds great to me. Enjoy your rueben and use both hands.

Oh yeah, the Spiral Hwy, been on it several times. The last time I couldn't resist doing it twice...up & down...

For the California part, the NW part of the state has some of the most fun roads anyplace. I don't know enough to do it justice as far as suggesting a route (and so much to choose from) but Phil and Charlene ("Weluvbikn") will be at the RR, and they live in Hayfork--right in the middle of all of it. Maybe drop them a PM. It's all so pretty, and twisty, and scenic I don't know how to start. You could get lost on 96, 3, 199, 299, 36 and a hundred empty backroads around there for weeks and never want to come out.

If it's the coast you want, 50 miles or so south of Eureka, take the turn to Leggett for hwy 1 and enjoy yourself. You could get pretty much all the way south without ever leaving that road if you wanted to.

Brian Maddy and I did some of that stuff several years ago, much worth doing again, but I will probably blitz South at least as far as San Francisco or Sacramento on Tuesday.

I have a tentative appointment with Dave Moss in Richmond on Thursday morning to look at my suspension setup, then will head South from there.

Will likely stop and see my brother in Marysville on Tuesday afternoon.
