Well, it took me 13k miles but I finally met the rev limiter on the FJR. I was passing some cars in a hurry and click...there goes the power. It only last a split second, but it was disconcerting for someone that had never hit that limit, and thought I had some headroom left...I guess the FJR ate up those RPMs faster than I expected it to? It's not like it's the first time I got on it!

Anyway, how many of you hit the limiter often, or is this a rare thing for most FJR riders?

I hit it in first passing a group of Harleys last year. It was like WEEEEEeeeeee! Then I hit the limiter, and it went into WHOA! mode. Hate that.

I haven't, mostly due to the fact that Frank doesn't really need to get into the stratosphere to get the job done. Expected to a couple times, but hasn't happened.

Nice way to rep the mark toto. What a dweeb. B)

I hit the rev limiter on my VFR over the weekend when I was riding with a buddy of mine who has a Star motorcycle with outrageously loud pipes...I couldn't hear my own engine over the din of his as we entering the expressway.

I've hit it quite a few times. Usually when coming out of a turn in too tall of a gear. No big deal. It does what it was designed to do.

I guess how often you hit it might be predicated on the type of bike you are used to riding before you get the FJR. I had a 1977 R100RS. It wasn't exactly rev happy. I imagine that a sport bike rider might have a hard time keepin the revs as low as the FJR handles them

Agreed. I'm used to torquey engines, and prefer low end grunt. I've never been comfortable exploring an engines upper limits, having seen the results all too many times when an engines limit has been surpassed, and new breather openings mysteriously appear. ;) Banging off the limiter seems a bad idea-not expecting it, the rider unfocuses for an instant, could be deadly when in a rev-limiter inducing moment one would think. It could also upset the chassis dynamics at a bad time. Thats why I've always been a fan of progressive shift lights-no tach watching, no over revving, just a nice visual indicator of the rev's that doesn't require monitoring.

Never on my fjr as I too am use to a bike that builds power down low but I am learning to rev it out a bit more and ear plugs help.

On my wr250 4 stroke that has a rev limit of 11000 I bounced off of it a bit this weekend testing my jetting job.

I couldn't tell if it was the limiter or that the main jet was too big or too small but others confirmed by my description of it coming on all of a sudden instead of gradually that it was the rev limiter.

It showed me that I am just going to have to shift faster and not ride it like my fjr that doesn't require shifting so quickly.

On my wr250 the limiter feels like the bike is missing and popping, not a good feeling but as soon as you switch gears the front end comes up again, awesome.

I don't think I've hit it on my FJR yet. Used to hit it on my 103 Road King regularly, and that pussified stock FatBoy I used to ride. That thing was pathetic on power. Guess I've spent too many years revving up rice burners.

I was out yesterday, getting on it. Cranked it up in first from a straight roll. Yes, the front end came off the ground, then a shift to 2nd and it came back down, rolled it back up. Looked down. Was doing something in the 85 neighborhood, I think, and the needle was above 10, but no limiter, and gave it another gear.

Does that sound right? I was paying more attention to where I was going moreso that what was registering. Anwyay, I thought I was going to hit the limiter but didn't.

This bike just keeps getting better and better! And it sure doesn't have any problems getting up in "the stratosphere"!

When i hit the twisties, I keep the RPM's in the 6-9k range. I have hit the limiter on the drag strip a couple times... Thats it i think.

Yeah, I hit the limiter 2 or 3 times. I try to keep an eye on the sweep of the tach nowadays and get the beast shifted just north of 8k. Have only hit the limiter in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Haven't been brave enough or located in a spot with a steep enough downhill to hit the limiter in 5th. :D

My tribute to TWN's ability to chop up a posting  Sorry FJRocket, wrong place at the wrong time ;)

You're a perv - do you know that? ;) :D
Do you:

1. Work?

2. Use the can?

3. Eat?

4. Sleep?

5. Ever wander more than 5 feet from a computer?

I mean, WTF? You joined 280 days ago, posted 3211 times (as of this message). That's 11.46 posts per day, roughly one every two hours.

Assuming it takes you 10 minutes to post and 20 minutes to read the new posts in each and every forum on each visit, you spend roughly 6 hours per day on this site. True or false? Add in the creative posts and forget it - 8 hours is easy.

Keep 'em coming, though!! I can't pay for this kind of entertainment. Oh, and what about the "new... openings mysteriously appear"???

Yes, yes, yes, sometimes and yes.

First off, lemme just say, go **** yourself. :D :p

Secondly, if you'll notice, most of my posts are very short. A lot consist of simply a smilie.

Thirdly, I type fast. It takes less than 30 seconds for most of my posts.

Fourthly, I took Evelyn Wood's speed reading class years ago.

E, look who is wasting time on the net figuring out WTF I'm doing.

VI, in my current gig of self employment, I can talk to my customers and do this at the same time. It's called multi-tasking, in case you never heard of that. That situation, however, changes tomorrow.

And lastly, go **** yourself. Oh, sorry, I already said that, didn't I? :****:
