Most of his posts are inane little quips. However, I think (would have to check with him) he has put more miles on his bike while filming than some have put on total ;)

Sorry sometimes I can't help myself :haha:

Just curious what is the cut out on our baby?
Thanks in advance :D
From the FSM:

The fuel injection mapping includes an over-revving control. The fuel cut-off control regulates the engine speed by stopping the injection of fuel into two cylinders when the engine speed becomes greater than the specified value. If the engine speed increases further, this control stops the injection of fuel to all the cylinders. Thus, the over- revving control effects fuel cut-off control in two stages.

Neither Yamaha owners manual or service manual actually specifies the cut-off rpms. My experience at the drag strip shows that the first stage starts between 9,500 and 10K rpm and I know for sure the second stage hits at 10.5K rpm. On the street where you may accidentally bump the limiter there is a noticeable drop in power before fuel totally cuts off. When riding WOT (Wide Open Throttle) you blow past the first cut-off point so fast you never notice it until all fuel gets completely shut off. As previously mentioned it leaves you wondering if you just blew the engine

I've bumped the cut-off a couple of times with a pillion, a few times during 'boys day out' when riding close to 10/10 in the twisties and more than I should at the drag strip. I aim to shift by 8.5K at the strip and going past that is a screw-up on my part. In first and second gear at WOT it is really hard to shift on time so I have to just keep on practicing ;)

Something to keep in mind about rev limiters....they don't protect an engine from overrevving on downshifts. In other words, blowing down the road at 120 and downshift into 1st and there's nothing preventing the motor from grenading from an overrev.

On page 29 of a document entitled "FJR1300 Technical Orientation Guide" a 9200 RPM limiter is included in the ECU description. This is a Yamaha Motor Canada document published in early 2002.

You're back end will be bouncing & sliding so much you'll WISH the motor would blow. The back wheel will not get traction in a 120 mph downshift to 1st.

Make sure you have someone video this one for us.

I have not hit the rev limiter. I try to be nice to my FJR because I want it to last a very long time. There are times when I am accelerating that I just don't want to take my eyes off the road long enough to look at the tach so I'm not sure if I ever got close. That's why I would like to see the tach in the center of the cluster.

My preference would be to put the tach in the center, the speedo on the right, and the other display panel on the left. Making the tach a little bigger would also be helpful.

Inane? Why, I never! :beee:
:haha: See that! You kill me (in a rotflol sort of way) I meant it in nice way, there are a great many times you are quite helpful, providing linky things and such, quite often you are actually funny and I like the video's...but, yeah, inane still fits ;)

I've hit my rev limiter on 3 or 4 occasions so far...I think its around 10200 or so. Gotta say though, that damn limiter REALLY cuts out the motor! My Honda Magna hits the limit at around 11K, and is very mild compared to the brutal cut out that the Feejer has.

Agreed.  I'm... prefer low end grunt.  I've... been comfortable exploring an... Banging off... the... rider...

Assuming it takes you 10 minutes to post and 20 minutes to read the new posts in each and every forum on each visit, you spend roughly 6 hours per day on this site. True or false? Add in the creative posts and forget it - 8 hours is easy.

Keep 'em coming, though!! I can't pay for this kind of entertainment. Oh, and what about the "new... openings mysteriously appear"???

Yes, yes, yes, sometimes and yes.

First off, lemme just say, go **** yourself. :D :p

Secondly, if you'll notice, most of my posts are very short. A lot consist of simply a smilie.

Thirdly, I type fast. It takes less than 30 seconds for most of my posts.

Fourthly, I took Evelyn Wood's speed reading class years ago.

E, look who is wasting time on the net figuring out WTF I'm doing.

VI, in my current gig of self employment, I can talk to my customers and do this at the same time. It's called multi-tasking, in case you never heard of that. That situation, however, changes tomorrow.

And lastly, go **** yourself. Oh, sorry, I already said that, didn't I? :****:
Whoa!! Lighten up Nancy.

Just askin'!! But the truth hurts, eh? ;)

It has been out lately that the Tachs on a lot of bikes can read 1000+ rpm over what the engine is actually turning. The new Yammy 600 was boasting a 17000 red line and mag testing it wouldn't turn over 16000 and Yammy offered to buy back any bikes from riders that were unhappy about it.

I think it's around 9500 but I can't recall. The first time it happened I wasn't really watching the tach just sorta waiting till Edna quit pullin' BAM! What the fook  outa power jus' like that!

I couldn't figure out why I wasn't all over the road from the rotella slick ejaculating from a busted motor.

Hit the limiter a coupla times since but I don't make it a habit :D

:jester:

'06A for 9 days and just over 1150 miles before I got introduced to the rev limiter (in first) this afternoon. Didn't know the **** had a rev limiter and decided to check out the FJR Forum when I returned to the homestead. I shouldn't have been surprised to find that I wasn't the first one to have this experience. Kind of surprising though as the engine was still pulling real hard when it cut out. First thought was "I hope I haven't f'd up my new bike" and then "it's not my fault, the **** just likes to be ridden hard and put away wet" and then, "I wonder how fast I'll be going when it cuts out in other gears". On the down side, I sure wouldn't want to have that experience when passing some cars. Guess it's time to watch the tach a little closer.
