Hello everyone.
When life is running at peak performance, you can expect the greatest highs AND the greatest lows.
The Spank Rally was a life changing experience for me. I had to deal with pretty much every high and low an RM could expect.
Uncle Bud's passing was the pointed low, yet all the calls from the road from riders who simultaneously praised and cursed me were for me the very highs and saving grace of this experience.
I thank from the absolute nadir of my heart all the riders and staff/ volunteers that made the Spank Rally the event that it was. You were awesome in spirit and support. I especially thank Don Moses for his tremendous wisdom and friendship through all of this. A better friend I could not ask for.
I just arrived home today and received a call that shocked me. The Sunday before Bud died I lost a great friend in a car crash. My friends knew I was running the rally and that the news would floor me. Just as I had asked you all to keep Bud's passing from the riders while en-route, my friends kept this tragic news from me while I still had the hearts and lives of many people to attend to.
A more layered irony I have never known.
As you can imagine, I kinda just want to die right now. Instead, I will execute a private Ride-to-Cave.
I thank the various lists for your brave efforts to keep my riders safe while underway. I can't express enough my gratitude to you all for being vigil in that request. I also appreciate very much the various kind words expressed to me in public and private. I thank you all.
I want you all to know that I'm OK, but will be imposing a self-exile of sorts until I wrap my head around everything. This has been a pretty tough 10 days.
Thanks again to everyone who has helped me with sage advice and counsel these last 10 days. Your words have helped a great deal and you know who you are. A kerjillion thanks.
For those that had a great time, be certain that the Spank Enterprise will not go away. The rewards for the immense effort that putting a rally together entails is tremendous and I wouldn't miss it for the world.
In some ways, it IS the world.
Again, I deeply thank the riders for rewarding me with such a great experience. You're the best.
Tip back a keg for Uncle Bud and hug your friends at every opportunity.
