Well guys are there any places i shouldn't pass up in Colorado?

I'm picking up a bike in Kansas and have a little free time and decided since I'm so close I'd mosey on over to the southwestern part of Colorado.A friend just came back from there and gave me a loop to do.

Take 160 to 149 north to 50 west to 550 south through ouray and silverton.Any other points of interest?

I'll be camping some and hotelin a little.

I'll be in that area around 8/3/06.Thanks for anybodys input.

Check out the rides that I recommend in the link in my signature block. Includes maps, photos, etc. If just Colorado, then check my 10-days in Colorado and pick and choose which roads you want to include.

Saturday we did a 500-mile loop (Taste-of-Colorado aka Butt-kicker) and had an awesome day. 149 is a really nice road, and 550 is the Million Dollar Highway (not to be missed). Awesome riding and sights on CO-92 (cross Blue Mesa Dam west of Gunnison) and over to Crawford and on to US-50 again in Delta. CO-133 from Hotchkiss up over McClure Pass has a great set of twisties and some awesome sweepers!! All are listed in my web, so see how much time you have a plan a route. Any questions, let me know.

Open invite here in Pagosa Springs. Stop by for the night the day whatever. We'll take you places, show you rides and eat too. Let me know. JB

Just remember this. If any roads people recommend start with dirt, don't go down them. I made a mistake on a road number and sent someone down a path that could have killed them, so I'm going to stick to the roads that I know for sure.

550, 145, Bear Creek Road (74), Squaw Pass Road (103) and when you get to Echo Lake, there is a lodge on the corner of the highest paved road in the US that goes to the top of Mount Evans (14k+ feet). That is a phenominal treat.

There are so many good roads, just pick destinations in the mountains and you'll be sure to use many of them.

DaveT,

Is CO-133 from Hotchkiss up over McClure Pass and into Crested Butte paved all the way? If not how "passable" is it under good conditions? Thanks in advance for your reply.

All of -133 is paved, but the road that cuts off from -133 at Paonia Dam to Crested Butte is NOT paved -- goes over Keebler Pass.

Thanks Dave. Guess I'll have to have Garauld built me crash bars and a skid plate! :)
