Sunday was of course Father's Day and I spent mine doing what I damn well pleased. :yahoo:
The plan was to get going at 7:00 and head to Yuba City for breakfast. Pretty soon however, we were all on Jamie time and by 7:20 things were starting to come around. Jaimie on the left with his 2006, and Phil ready to go on the 2012.
I shouldn't give him such a hard time, but he's a great friend, and he did upgrade his ride quite a bit.

Phil heading north after leaving the levees for Hwy 70. Um, Phil needs a GPS and/or a radio. But as long as he can't hear us, we have a good time talking about how lost he is.
The proposed Cook N Pot was closed, but we found a good place to eat in Marysville. No food ****, but it was satisfying. We then headed out towards Quincy LaPorte Road.
The pavement was in excellent condition today without so much stray sand or gravel, and no FJRs were sacrificed. It felt great to climb out of the 100s in the valley to the mid-80s near Quincy.
We stopped for some refreshing drinks in Quincy where Phil told us he had to return. Jamie and I decided we had some more riding to do, and would push north to Lassen.
We parted ways at the Hwy 70/89 split, and Jamie and I continued to Lake Almanore where the snows of Mt Lassen start to come into view.
After filling up in Chester by Lake Almanore, we quickly covered the 22 miles to the park entrance and started climbing the breathtaking Mt Lassen Highway. The road is often closed into July, but this was a fairly weak snow year, and there was actually less snow on June 17 than we experienced last year on August 3. This is just uphill from the Sulfur springs, where boiling springs and fumaroles are alongside the road attracting tourists, thus the low speed limit posted in the background.
What a road!
Helen Lake is barely covered with ice and snow now. The snow is covered with deep runnels and snow cups, and the bright blue water is starting to show around the shoreline. Within the next two weeks, this should be nearly open water.
The Lassen Peak Trail is open, and we saw cross country skiers and hikers climbing through the snowfields.
