I loved my visit to Rocky Point in December 2006. Unfortunately I was there for two days of work and didn't have time to have fun. This was the view out side of my conference room:

clocklaw: If you ever have a spare weekend and want to ride to Rocky Point, just post me at [email protected] or call me at 480-917-3863. I'll ride mi motocicleta para Puerto Penasco en uno minuto; at the drop of a sombrero. I Love Sonora!

Reservation made! Jane and I will be going to bring your ass back in case you break your leg or something!

Don't forget to bring bail money.... Oh, and knowing you two, I would ask Jane to hold on to it because both of you'se may end up in the po-po.

Saludos Arturo: Last time I was in Puerto Penasco with "El Pendejo" - GregM, GSJane, "El Jefe" Boles y "La Reina" Boles, El Gobernador de Sonora Martin Osete y El Embajador de Irlandes Seamus MacTreihnfir of Dublin; we did wind up at the Policia Estado P.P.: Senor Martin paid a 500 peso fine muy pronto. Caramba! Recuerdos, Chuy Medina "El Burrito Ballerina" Don S.

Mi compadre Zonies: Seven weeks from today we will be riding South into Sonora, Mexico for our annual Rocky Point Run.

If you have not made your reservations yet at Hotel Puerto Penasco del Sol, do them while there are still rooms available!

They have a very liberal cancellation policy, so if you are unsure if you can get off work, reserve a room and cancel later.

We already have six couples booked for this trip and vectervp1 is standing by con dinero in case we need to be bailed out.

We always enjoy the Rocky Point Ride; pool party Saturday PM; booze cruise and dinner in the evening; Sunday hangovers!

Beemerdons,

I live in El Paso and while I would love to make this trip, in all honesty I am really concerned about the security issues in Mexico right now. We have hundreds of Mexican nationals moving into El Paso on visitors Visa's to get away from the violence related to the drug cartels. I am under the impression that this is not localized in Juarez, it extends across the entire border area.

Whats your take on the safety issues?

https://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30790 Fz1Pilot: Last October eight of us AZ Beemers from Phoenix rode to Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco Estado. 10 days and 3,600 miles South of the Border. I am 60 and have been riding for 45 years and 40 of those years have been spent riding in Mexico. I have to admit that this situation in Mexico over the last year really does concern me! The narcotraficantes have become so powerful and the Mexican police so corrupt that it is indeed a volatile situation. AZ Beemers has a number of our members with close ties to Mexico. Martin Osete was born in Nogales, Sonora and currently lives and operates his business in Hermosillo. Enrique Garza's mother still lives in Magdalena. We base our routings in Mexico on the most current information we receive from our Mexican contacts.

Two decades ago I rode solo to Guatemala City on my BMW R80RT and thought nothing of any security and safety issues.

I'd not attempt this ride solo due to my concern with the drug cartels, particularly passing through the "Sinaloa Cowboys"!

I still lead three or four motorcycle trips a year into Mexico for the Arizona FJR Forum and AZ Beemers. I just advise safety in numbers and avoiding known danger areas such as Tijuana, Juarez or Nuevo Laredo. I'll use safe passage crossings such as Tecate, Nogales and Eagle Pass, even though I'm going miles out of my way, just to avoid "los banditos" elsewhere.

I also travel with guys possessing previous first hand experience motorcycling in Mexico: SkooterG, vectervp1, bbolesaz and others I ride South with have been riding to Mexico with me for many years; they know the ropes and lay of the land!

If you peruse Southwest you will see that there is also a Ride to Real de Catorce in Central Mexico near Zacatecas in April of 2009 and we are riding back to Guatemala in October of 2010. You are welcome to join in on any of these trips with us.

I've never lost a man in Mexico due to my taking precautions; though we did our best to lose SkooterG in Baja Sur in 2004!

It sounds like you are taking the right precautions,

This sounds like a great trip and one that I would love to make with some experienced riders like yourselves. I'll bounce it off my better half and see what kind of reaction I get.

Thanks for addressing the concern,

Just a bump reminder that four weeks from today we are riding to Rocky Point. Over a dozen bikers from AZ Beemers and Arizona FJR Forum are signed up for this run. There's still rooms available at Hotel Del Sol. The weather has been so warm in Puerto Penasco, SkooterG has promised us that he will wear a bikini on the beach. You certainly don't want to miss that!!!

Thanks for the offer....but it is 1,800 miles one way to the boarder at the Organ Pipe Cactus Desert, I don't think i will make that run for a couple of years.

Ok Don, I'll consider it. Let me start. Ok, finished.. :****: You kidding me man? I don't have enough beer or bikes! Besides, all the Creston heifers are spoken for...
You phucktards have a great time, try to not get arrested, and remember, never ride too close to Flipper.

Just a bump reminder that we of the AZ FJR Forum are riding to Rocky Point a week from today. Still rooms available at Hotel Puerto Penasco del Sol and you can get your bike insurance online at https://www.mexpro.com Arriba hombres, Fiesta!!

ROUNDEL: Come riding to Rocky Point with us. All you need is a drivers license and Mexico bike insurance.

There's a spare bed in my room that you're welcome to sleep in. Or team up with AZBMWRIDER for a room.

FOOTNOTE: If you have a passport, definitely bring it along! If you only have a drivers license, bring along two other Id's, such as a utility bill, tax statement or a Voters Registration Card. You can get your bike insurance on line and print it: https://www.mexpro.com or https://www.mexican-autoinsurance.com are good outfits.

AZ-J: It's only 1 hour from Exit #162 to Gila Bend. Dr. Bob, SkooterG and I'll only wait until 0710 for you!

Saludos Seamus: By my count we have seven AZ Beemers and three from https://www.fjrforum.com riding down with us on Saturday morning. Bearing in mind that "La Reina" y "El Jefe" Boles will already be at the Puerto Penasco del Sol Hotel, they are arriving in Rocky Point on Friday afternoon. So, it's "THE DIRTY DOZEN!"

Don,

Do we have any update on the details

whats the latest number confirmed for the trip. Are there specific plans for the afternoon / evening or just do our own thing?

Any off road bikes going?, there is supposed be a good off road section by the rail road that I may want to try in the afternoon or Sunday morning if anyone has an a dual sport and is interested

thanks and looking forward to the trip

Seamus
Brother Seamus: "THE DIRTY DOZEN" are riding to Rocky Point this weekend. As of this posting, you are the only rider operating a dual sport bike. If you can apply that famous Irish charm and hablo tus amigos ROUNDEL y AZBMWRIDER to accompanying us, you will have two other GS riders with you. Since SkooterG es muy loco y muy feo, there is always the chance you will look in your rear view mirrors while riding the good off road section by the rail road and see EL PENDEJO on his Yamaha FJR 1300; attempting to throw a sand ball at you at speed. Que lastima!

Herr Marbach has requested that we have our lunch, la comida, at Manny's Cantina and since that has been a long standing tradition among we Mexico Riders, we once again will have lunch at Playa Azul. Can't occupy hotel til 1400.

As for the afternoon, I intend to continue a fine AZ Beemers, FJR Forum and Irish tradition of getting drunk poolside!!!

For the evening, some of the group wants to go to the Captain's Table, La Mesa del El Capitano, for fine dinner and a sunset view. I prefer going on a "Booze Cruise" offshore of Puerto Penasco with unlimited cervezas, tequila y tacos!!
