The ride to the Southern Desert began as a “proposal to head south” for the weekend of The Presidents, February 12 – the 15th. Due to all kinds of recent inclement weather, and some good (or not so good?) common sense, the final muster was a strange yet spirited group. Island Bob came down from Lopez Island, Washington and spent a couple of days at my place in drying himself out before he and I headed out on Friday Morning February 12th to meet Rudy and Pam who were going to follow us in a car? Here’s a couple of pictures of Rudy’s Beemer and a crushed pair of Parked BMW's near the Buckhorn in New Cuyama CA 166.

Bob rode his ZG 1000 Concourse and I rode “the Blue Ox", Rudy and Pam in the Beemer

Here we are heading East on N2, a county road near Lancaster, CA

The Skies were clear, temps in the mid-60’s, and it was dry!

After arrival at our overnight digs in Rancho Mirage,

we settled on a ride plan for the following day of Saturday, February 13 which would take us to 29 Palms and Joshua Tree.

This is where we had decided to visit, the outdoor sculpture park of desert sculptor Simi Dahba near Joshua Tree.

Here’s “I Bob” checking out his own Eye con in a Dahba Iron

What a strange ride it’s been, 2 motorcycles, 4 people and a car?

Here’s Simi’s signature on a piece of iron. He stamps the date, his name, and the weight on 'em. There are over 500 of them scattered about.

To Finish the day, we rode through Joshua Tree National Monument that afternoon before return to Rancho Mirage and a fine Mexican dinner at the Mexicali Café in Indio. Then, later that evening, Steve Kauffman (03 Silverbullet) joined us. After a full night’s rest, all of us headed out in a somewhat scattered formation up 74 to 79 toward Anza, then down into Borrego Springs. Steve and I lost the others somehow (?) as “I Bob” was headed to Arizona and Rudy and Pam were going to see a dentist in TJ. Steve and I rode out to Ocatillo Wells but couldn’t find cell reception to call Jill and Andy, and turned back to head toward Julian. Steve lost me somewhere (?). When I got near Julian, I couldn’t get into town due to a traffic Jam. After roasting myself sitting on my FJR at 4 bars, I turned and split back the way I came toward Rancho Mirage to the barn. Turns out by cell message, that Steve was waiting for me in Julian with a piece of pie, but I never made it down into the town.

On Monday, I left Rancho Mirage for home with a total for the 3 day weekend of 1209 miles.

Next time I’m heading to the Southern Desert I’m going to visit these sites;

George...what a fun ride.

How do you find all of these interesting places to visit?

Where are the pictures of the Treatment Plants?

Nice pics George. As you know it wasn't so sunny the week before. Here's Joshua Tree Park in 45 and rain. No 4 bars on the FJR that day.

Plenty of these without much traffic

Some are introduced to me by the local Sculptors group that I belong to, and some come from watching Huell Howser on KCET! "California's Gold" is the program on the tube.

Where are the pictures of the Treatment Plants?
Coming. I'm waiting for the weather to dry out a bit. My next ride will be to the High Desert on March 25 - 28 = Death Valley/Mt Whitney/Alabama Hills/Owens Valley/Panamint Springs etc. After that, I will commence the Sewer Tour. Stay tuned?
