That's a little more than a days ride on a motorcycle, at least for me. It's 13 hours round trip, not counting any breaks for gas, meals, rest or seeing the sights.
yeah...but for Tony, that's just a half day of riding

But it's leaving the fun roads around LaCrosse to travel a long way on boring roads to reach a fun short loop of road between Phoenix and Copper Harbor. But that's just me. I also prefer to ride the Keweenaw on weekdays. Too many RVs and pirates on the weekend.

So that's "no & no" for you then?

I was just up that way camping last weekend (Blackhawk Park) and the best part of the whole weekend was the ride up and back between Praire du Chien and Maquoketa. Wonderful sweepers through the hills and beautiful postcard farms in the lower part and sheer cliffs and miles of running right next to the Mississippi for the upper part. Lots of historic markers, lovely little towns and several scenic overlooks up on top of the cliffs.

After daily commuting in flat, featureless central Illinois I was giggling in my helmet for hours!

Most riders will ride US-41 up the Keweenaw Peninsula to Copper Harbor and come back down MI-26 along the Lake Superior shore to where it meets US-41 again at Phoenix. I recommend that you reverse that by getting off US-41 at Phoenix and take MI-26 to Copper Harbor and them come back down US-41. That way you are going against traffic and will less likely get stuck behind RVs and the pirates. There are a lot of less-used roads to explore if you have the time. Just past Copper Harbor it's worth the time to visit Fort Wilkens but the college kids that dress and act like characters of the mid 1800s period will be gone and back in school. Other sites to see are The Jampot on MI-26 which is a store run by a sect of Monks that make jams from fruits they grow themselves. A trip up Brockway Mountain Drive gives you a view from over 700 feet above Lake Superior.

Marty, that was a no and no for me as to making a one day round trip from LaCrosse to Copper Harbor and back. I might consider going there after CFO is over and staying overnight before returning home.

101, The tunnel of trees is Linc's home ground if you want to know about that area.
