Firstly, forgive me for not knowing the what the format of the EOM is. I am not sure exactly what will be happening since I have never attended this before. But I am pretty sure I know what to expect. A lot of riding and socializing! :D

So I have read a few threads about roads, routes, daily mileage and a bunch of other things.

How will the routes be distributed out to the rest of us, once you have it all figured out? I am sure that someone will be leading and hopefully some sort of map will be handed out.

But on another thought, can we get the routes uploaded into GPS? If you need help getting the routes into Garmin and then getting them out to everyone, let me know. I would love to help.

Funny you should ask. I volunteered to run a 2-up ride. splbnk sent me 2 routes. I've spent several hours thus far trying to enter them as routes into that steaming pile of crap MapSource program. Last time was one hour last night. Actually got it in there, named, etc. Closed the program and was asked if I wanted to save the "untitled" file. Naturally I said no since I had "titled" my file. Yup, gone - I calmly turned the computer off and hit the rack, will try again.

I will get the route into that friggin' program and will distribute it (if someone tells me how) whenever folks would like it. I have my liberty card on 23 Jun and intend to ride either part or all of 1 route - depending on how early I start. I'll certainly let you know if (when) I need help!

Hopefully, route descriptions and maps will be posted to the "under construction" website also.

Sweet maps. . . Jim, i think you and I spoke about this last weekend. Mapsource is not user friendly. But I did get it to work once or twice. Ask me to find the route in the GPS and it takes me longer than it should but I know it's there. I guess what I should learn is how to load a POI. I will contact Garmin and try and figure this out. I downloaded a few already they do not work. Maybe if I made my own, we can use them for this trip.

Agree that the usability on Mapsource is terrible. Sometimes I can't locate an address via Mapsource but the GPS itself easily finds it. Go figure...

What Mapsource does is save a series of routes inside of a single gdb file. You probably named the route but not the gdb file. I would like to be able to combine routes from several gdb files into one but I haven't figured out how to do that.

Geezer,

You can combine multiple routes into one .gdb file via cut & paste. Just open the file(s) with the single route in them, right click and copy, then go to the your combined file, on the routes tab, then click the paste icon. I did this with the maps used for VFRD meet I went to with a friend in May.

Thanks, that will save me a lot of time trying to replicate routes manually.

I'm good with Mapsource.

I'll volunteer to create gpx routes if you send me the ride sheets.

PM me for my e-mail address if you want my help.

Mapsource is not friendly or quick, but usable once you understand it's quirks - - watch those U-turns.

Don't like to spend my time doing that at the meet though, would rather drink beer.

The rides could be posted on GroupRider.com.

Could make it a private ride or group to keep meddlers out.

The moderators for ESTN did this and it was great.
