Location
Shingle Springs, California
Out in the West Texas town of El Paso
I fell in love with a Mexican girl
Night-time would find me in Rosa's cantina
Music would play and Felina would whirl

Blacker than night were the eyes of Felina
Wicked and evil while casting a spell
My love was deep for this Mexican maiden
I was in love but in vain, I could tell

One night a wild young cowboy came in
Wild as the West Texas wind
Dashing and daring, a drink he was sharing
With wicked Felina, the girl that I loved

So in anger I
Challenged his right for the love of this maiden
Down went his hand for the gun that he wore
My challenge was answered in less than a heart-beat
The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor

Just for a moment I stood there in silence
Shocked by the foul evil deed I had done
Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there
I had but one chance and that was to run

Out through the back door of Rosa's I ran
Out where the horses were tied
I caught a good one
It looked like it could run
Up on its back
And away I did ride

Just as fast as I
Could from the West Texas town of El Paso
Out to the bad-lands of New Mexico

Back in El Paso my life would be worthless
Everything's gone in life nothing is left

It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden
My love is stronger than my fear of death

I saddled up and away I did go

Riding alone in the dark

Maybe tomorrow
A bullet may find me
Tonight nothing's worse than this
Pain in my heart

And at last here I
Am on the hill overlooking El Paso
I can see Rosa's cantina below
My love is strong and it pushes me onward
Down off the hill to Felina I go

Off to my right I see five mounted cowboys
Off to my left ride a dozen or more
Shouting and shooting I can't let them catch me
I have to make it to Rosa's back door

Something is dreadfully wrong for I feel
A deep burning pain in my side
Though I am trying
To stay in the saddle
I'm getting weary
Unable to ride

But my love for
Felina is strong and I rise where I've fallen
Though I am weary I can't stop to rest
I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest

From out of nowhere Felina has found me
Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side
Cradled by two loving arms that I'll die for
One little kiss and Felina, good-bye

A classic love song, and one that still raises goosebumps. Will stash that on the iPhone and play it as we pass through El Paso on griff's 50CC.

I'm more into rock and jazz, but I had his "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs" album when I was a teen, and I'd still rank it among my favorite of all times. I probably should go buy the MP3 album.

Good one OM but:

Sammy Hagar - I Can't Drive 55

One foot on the brake and one on the gas, hey!
Well, there's too much traffic, I can't pass, no
So I tried my best illegal move
A big black and white come and crushed my groove again

Go on and write me up for one twenty five
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive fifty five
Oh no! Uh!

So I signed my name on number twenty four, hey!
Yeah the judge said, "Boy, just one more, uh!
I'm gonna throw your *** in the city joint"
Looked me in the eye, said, "You get my point?"
I said "Yeah! Oh yeah!"

Write me up for one twenty five
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive fifty five
Oh, yeah!

I can't drive fifty five
I can't drive fifty five
I can't drive fifty five
I can't drive fifty five
Uh!

When I drive that slow, you know it's hard to steer
And I can't get my car out of second gear
What used to take two hours now takes all day
Huh, it took me sixteen hours, get to L.A.

Go on and write me up for one twenty five
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive fifty five

No, no, no, I can't drive
(I can't drive fifty five)
I can't drive
(I can't drive fifty five)
I can't drive fifty five
(I can't drive fifty five)

Any Zeppelin. Most Rush. Most Motorhead. All Radiohead. Metallicas For Whom the Bell Tolls. Mastodon's Curl of the Curl, Colony of Birchmen. The soundtrack from The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.

None any greater than Marty's "El Paso". Never before had a young man been so obsessed with getting to Rosa's back door.

Dreamer Deceiver-

"Standing by my window, breathing summer breeze

Saw a figure floating, 'neath the willow tree

Asked us if we were happy, we said we didn't know

Took us by the hands and up we go

We followed the dreamer through the purple hazy clouds

He could control our sense of time

We thought we were lost but no matter how we tried

Everyone was in peace of mind

We felt the sensations drift inside our frames

Finding complete contentment there

And all the tensions that hurt us in the past

Just seemed to vanish in thin air

He said in the cosmos is a single sonic sound

That is vibrating constantly

And if we could grip and hold on to the note

We would see our minds were free...oh they're free

We are lost above

Floating way up high

If you think you can find a way

You can surely try"

And just about anything from them. Lately I have a thing for Shakira too. Never liked her before, but whatever!
