I tried a set recently. You get what you pay for. I ride between 30 & 40K miles per year about 50/50 highway and 2 lane mountainous backroads...Western NC, East Tn, Upstate SC. I've tried a bunch of tires. I only got 2561 on the rear, 5323 on the front.PR2's average about 7K front and rear...same bike, same roads.

A good performing and nice riding tire. I'm at about 2500 miles on my rear and it seems to be getting down there a bit, about half worn maybe more. It's always tough for me to judge a tire after they have some wear, sometimes they disappear quickly, sometimes not. I got about 6500 miles out of a PR2 rear. I am guessing about 4-4.5k miles out of this Conti. The front is wearing much better it has 4000 miles and is looking good. I always ride pretty aggressively.

I've read other reviews that other riders have gotten over 10k miles out of these on their FJRs. I will probably try PR3s next.

I'm going to order a set and give them a try. A buddy has them on his '10 R1200RT and says they are wearing fine. He has 4K on his and still look like new. Says they work well in the rain. I'm also going to take advantage of the sale they have on brake pads, 25% off on EBC's with tire purchase.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong I may grab another rear to pair with my current front for my trip to Arkansas in May as I think I'll wear out my rear before then. I'm pretty stupid on my FJR when it comes to tire longevity.

Prices have risen on these since they first came out. Back a year ago or so you could get a set for $160 shipped. I really like the tire. My favorite so far for ride and handling. They are sticky as hell. Don't expect the same life out of something like the PR2s. The rubber is softer. Trade-off of ride and handling vs. life.

I got 8600 miles from the rear, and 12,000 from the front. Both those figures at least 1/3 less than PR2s. Still, they are an excellent priced, great handling tire. Just don't expect extended life.

Before I take the plunge, anyone care to comment on how the Conti handles two up? About 75% of my riding is two up and have run both the PR2 standard rear and their "B" spec but, I really don't feel the extra $ is warranted for my "light" two up load. However, I don't want to find out half way to visiting our friends in Canada this June that Contis have weaker side walls.

Hey man,

Remember, you can always have a set shipped to me and you can stop by on your way to/from Arkansas to freshen up your tires. Last time I checked, you have to go through Iowa to get to Arkansas from Richfield.

;-)

Thanks Shane, I will eventually take you up on that offer! Hope y'all are doing well in IA. I was actually thinking about you tonight as I am researching getting some tools to start doing my own tires as well.

This guy has my interest along with something like the mojolever and a spoon or two.

I only have a one car garage so the floor mounting larger unit are out of the question.

My Harbor Freight floor mount tire changer is at my buddy's house in his garage. We installed the anchor bolts in his cement floor, but we disassemble and store the tire changer every time after using it so it's not sitting there taking up space and leaves his garage floor completely flat with nothing there but the three anchor bolts which are flush with the floor. Another option is to mount it to a big piece of plywood so you can move it around. Though I think that would be 'less than ideal'.

Oh, and I most definitely give a 'thumb's up' to the Mojo-lever.

That looks like a decent unit, at least by the picture. Where/how do you plan to mount it solidly?

Nobody rides two up on Contis?

I only got one ride in with my wife last year. We're about 340 combined with our gear on. While it was not an aggressive ride the bike, as usual, handled as if there wasn't even a passenger. The rear tire says a load limit of 806lbs FWIW.

Cool! The Mrs. and I geared up are a skosh lighter than that so sounds like these will work. I'm a dyed in the wool Michelin fan, but with savings like this, I can afford to try out a set of Contis. Thanks for the info, ordered a set and the deal is still good as of 1838 hrs. PST, 2/26/12.
