Oh my God, guys!!! What an emotional roller coaster!! :dribble: Between the initial shock of pulling a SkooterG in the gravel and knowing I was toast, and the fear of dealing with a pissed off wife seeing as how I busted my collarbone less than two months ago on my dual sport, and the utterly surreal disappointment of feeling like I just totally screwed up my friend's entire trip that we have had planned, I am just completely spent! We are hanging in there, though. I can't even begin to express my gratitude to both Mike for lending out his rim and tire, but also to Bob for being not only willing to lend me his but also for driving it a significant distance. Mike hit it on the head exactly during our conversation when he reflected exactly what I feel, which is if I were in the position to be able to help someone that we would because we would hope someone would do the same for us if we found ourselves in their position. This is clearly the case, and I applaud both Mike and Bob! :clapping:

Another special thanks to Chris (Aroostook) for putting up with all of everything that this little SNAFU has brought with it.... I truly appreciate your understanding and comraderie. This is what this forum is all about, like what DCarver said about the NERDS gathering.... kudos, amigo!! :drinks:

Will keep folks posted, but am trying to remain optimistic to at least salvage some riding out of the last few days we have left.

May I make one more separate inquiry here? The bike was NOT leaking any rear gear oil from either the vent or the pumpkin either immediately after the accident or noticed during the next few hours. Overnight, the bike leaked what was described to me as a saucer sized puddle and appeared to be coming from the bottom of where the four acorn nuts attach the two pieces at the pumpkin. I have concerns that without the shop pulling the tire or pumpkin, that there is some problem that they are willing to dismiss based on just a quick look. Obviously, I just need to be able to advocate for myself and ensure that before I roll the bike out of their shop, that I am completely satisfied and conmfortable with what they are telling me. I just don't feel like getting down the road a couple hundred miles only to break down again because something was poo-pooed and/or overlooked.

Thanks again to all for their advice and assistance! You guys rock! If there are any folks who are reading this but aren't part of the FJR assistance list, I'd urge you to check into it if you are unfamiliar or at least reconsider if you've chosen not to........... this **** can happen to you, too.

CJ,

That is the location of the weep hole for the drive shaft. The only way that gear oil gets into that area is by leaking past the drive shaft seal in the pumpkin. If this were a car it would be called the pinion seal. It might be worth a closer look to be sure the seal has not been dislodged or otherwise been seriously damaged. To do that with the wheel already off is just a matter of removing those four acorn nuts and pulling off the pumpkin. If it looks OK you'll be fine, even if it is weeping a bit, it will hold the gear oil in until you get back home and you can change the seal later. But if it is popped out or ripped you'll want to get it replaced now.

I'll wait until you get home to start teasing you about tossing your bikes around... ;)

Update: I just got back from taking my tire/rim to the dealership where I met Chris and C.J., only to find out there is some bad news. Cracked swingarm!! Ouch!! They are trying to figure out the new plan of attack. I guess we will wait and see.

Well that just sucks! Chris has my number. I am still withing striking distance if I can be of any futher assistance. And I have an enclosed trailer that I would loan if needed. Hate that option, but it is there if needed. It even says Yamaha on the back!

Wow, the roller coaster takes a dip.

If the crack isn't too bad, weld it up and ride her home.

..and the trailer is a huge offer.

A good weld shop should be able to patch it up at least till yo get home. That white metal aluminum can be a ***** to weld if you don't have the experiance. Any pic's of the crack in the swingarm?

Newest update: working on getting the bike home by either renting a Uhaul or having a friend drive down to get him or I make him ride ***** and he can come back down with his truck and get it. There are also other options he is exploring.

If the swingarm is cracked and it is leaking final drive lubricant than I doubt it is simply a matter of welding. That used one on Ebay looks like a good deal if you are not insured. It looks to me like it's trailer time.

Well Bob, we tried. Last I heard he was coming back to get it this weekend. I think the better plan would be let em fix it here, like he had talked about, then I could ride it back up to there.

I would be easy on it, I promise.... :devilsmiley: .

Hope they made it back o.k.
