So, after leaving the Spearfish Roundup I have some destinations in mind but I would appreciate suggestions regarding what routes to take. I have three destinations I want to hit: Roundup, MT, Basin, WY and Hamilton, MT. I currently have no time frame (ok well, I do have to be back to work in the Denver area by 7/6) and no set times to be at any of these locations. I'd like to ride Bear Tooth as well as Chief Joseph. Other than that, I'm wide open for roads and routes. This trip will be my first long ride on the FJR so I'm honestly not sure how many miles a day I'll be able to do. I know some of you guys can do 1000 mike days...not me. So let's think about 500 miles as a max for a days worth of riding. Hit me with your suggestions....can't wait to hear them! Thanks!

Spearfish to Sheridan WY, see route on the BH FJR Roundup thread, over the Bighorns on US 14, stop in Basin WY. Up to Cody WY, oRide the chief Joseph and then the Bear Tooth. Spend the night in Red Lodge Mt, ride Bear tooth and Chief Joseph the other direction Up to Billings, then to Roundup. US 12 west out of Roundup. Ask Pterodactyl for a more interesting route to Hamilton MT. Stay out of Yellowstone, traffic will be awful. On your way home don't miss US 16 over the bighorns to Buffalo WY. Tensleep Canyon I s awesome.

Thanks John. One thing is, after I leave Hamilton, I'll probably head south to Southern Idaho to see some friends. So that being the case, I think I may try this route. Leave Spearfish and slab it over to Buffalo, and then head to Worland via 16 and then North to Basin. Stay the night in Basin (my Father's hometown..I want to sit in the same bar he did when he was younger) and then from there head to Cody and pick up Chief Joseph and then East on Beartooth and then head up to Roundup for the night. I've got some friends with a ranch up there so I'll be staying with them. I'll take your advise and leave Roundup West on 12 and then pick up 90 to Missoula and then head South to Hamilton for the night. Once I leave there I think I'll probably continue South on 93 headed to Pocatello and then east a bit to my friends place in Lava Hot Springs. From there I intend to head on down to Green River, UT and then to Mesa Verde, CO and then home. Now since I have no set times to be anywhere, all of this could change on a moments notice. All it takes is an interesting looking turn-off. :) This should be a fun trip. Sad to say, this will be my longest trip since my Coast to Coast to Coast way back in '97. Of course that was done on a Honda Shadow 600, so I'm expecting this to be a bit more comfortable.
