So I"m planning to head from Denver to Oregon late June. Meeting up with a buddy in SLC and then he wants to head North from there before heading to Medford in Southern Oregon. He is wanting to go all the way up to Coeur D'Alene and then head back W/SW from there. I don't have any problem with this...not looking for a direct route, just a good ride. Does anyone have any suggestions for routes? He's on a Road Glide and I'll be on my FJR, so no off-road excursions please. lol Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's easy. Ride up 93 till Lolo, turn right on 12 to Cherrylane, turn right over Cherrylane Bridge and ride over the McGary Grade to highway 3, north on 3 to Rose Lake, turn left to Coeur D'Alene (rode that this weekend). From Coeur D'Alene going south, take 95 till you pass Grangeville about 10 miles to Poe Summit and take the old highway 95 to White Bird (don't skip this). Continue on 95 to New Meadows and turn left onto 55 until Banks then turn left onto Banks-Lowman road till Lowman and turn right on 21 riding past Idaho City till I-84 and Boise. After that just slog on to Medford. You will have just ridden some of the best roads in america.

Let's see, how does Fontanaman put it...

Ride the box in Oregon. I-84 to OR-26 and OR-97 all the way east to ID. Antelope, Fossil, Spray, Ukiah, Sumpter - you'll have a blast!

If you are heading from Boise direction I would consider going from North Power thru Anthony Lakes, to Ukiah (NFD-73, NF-52). Ukiah to Heppner, Condon, Fossil, Antelope, coming out at Shaniko. Also if you have never seen Crater Lake and the weather is good, it would be a sight worth seeing.
