Hi All!! I got a nice PM from MadMike when he noticed that I hadn't posted in awhile and he was worried about me... that made me feel pretty good. I've been swamped with my touring company, www.northstarmototours.com, a ride to Europe this summer, raising my 16-year old daughter, working full-time, and finding some time for sleep in between!! :dribble: So I vowed to get back in the swing of things and post up here about some of the adventures I've been on the past few months. Here's the latest, greatest from this past weekend... enjoy!
Decided last minute to head for the wine country in a quest for fall colors. All the photos here:
While it wasn’t quite as colorful as last year’s trip, we weren’t disappointed. Meet spot was the GGB vista point and it was a brilliantly sunny day.
Dona was enjoying the moment
We met up with Kendall and Steve in Marin then headed out via Lucas Valley and other assorted back roads. We stopped to see the kiddies frolicking in a local pumpkin patch… no bouncy houses or gimmicks… just good old pumpkins!
View from Wilson Hill Rd.
We alighted in Occidental for lunch and were surrounded by these bikes… we felt very safe! They were on the graduation run of their training program… ready to be let out on the streets.
Food was good, albeit a wee bit on the pricey side, and proportions were huge! Glad Dona and I decided to share a plate!
Steve pointed out that the reflection of the umbrella in the spoon looked like a spider… just in time for Halloween!
Coleman Valley Rd. where we experienced our first splash of color, lit by the sun. It was dazzling.
More views from Coleman Valley Rd.
Hwy. 1… I love the big feather plants along the coast road
Meyers Grade Rd.
Someone had a good time… just wish they’d clean up after themselves!

We high-tailed it into Santa Rosa via River Rd. to stay at one of my favorite places, The Fountaingrove Inn, where we checked in to our rooms, relaxed for a bit, and then met up with newlyweds, Audrey and Clint, for dinner and frivolity at the Equus Restaurant.
The next morning, Kendall and Steve decided to take it easy so Dona, Audrey, Clint and I headed for Skaggs Spring Rd. It was decidedly cooler than the day before so we were well bundled and heated for the day.
Dry Creek Rd.
I hadn’t ridden Skaggs in awhile and I was bound and determined to get some riding pics but, as usual, I was just having too much fun riding those twists and turns to even try getting the camera up and out. But just a reminder about the speed limit out there... riiiiiiiight.
The goatier side where we slowed down a bit as a get off out there would not be a good thing.
It was weird… we were in shadow almost the whole way and it was COLD! Could sense the day’s getting shorter and fall moving in.
Kings Ridge Rd. – one of my very favorites – watch out for the cows!
This was the spot we stopped last year and got some amazing photos of the leaves and such in the area. Looks quite different this year… guess the lack of water has made it for a less productive year for the foliage.
From Cazadero Hwy, we aimed toward the coast for gas and lunch in Jenner. We were greeted by a whole lot of this… looks like we chose the right day to ride out by the coast!
I came across this traveling man who had crowned himself the Vagabond King, in search of a sanctuary on this earth. He was traveling with his pups, Sweetie (16 years old) and Lucky (cause he still has his nads… for now).
In case you can’t read the side panel in the above shot, this is what it has been named.
Bumper sticker in the back window
Lunch stop in Jenner right next to the gas station
The owner and grill master right out in the front of the building.
Clint and Audrey beaming as they just closed escrow on their new house in Santa Rosa!
Dona and me beaming… well, just because.
After lunch, Clint and Audrey headed for home and Dona and I sallied forth along Hwy 1 for a bit until finally tiring of the fog, headed inland for more Marin backroads.
Surprisingly, it never did warm up much until we got to the gas station at Freitas Pkwy, where we stripped layers only to pull off the freeway to put them all back on again a couple of miles down the road because of this…
Another great set of memories with some great friends. That’s what it’s all about!
