I've never been one to shy away from ritualistic high mileage abuse. I normally ride in the wet just as readily as in the sun. But this being my first Yamaha, I'm somewhat preoccupied with parts where rust is normally encountered. All machines need maintenance. Ones operated regularly in the rain even more so. Mine is a 2014. More experienced folks- where do I need to plan to give extra attention/lube/plan for periodic replacement to keep corrosion at bay? Thanks in advance.

 
Early bikes in Europe had issues with the dogbones, bearing seizing. I'm not sure that was ever really an issue by the time the bikes came to our shores...

Drive shaft splines (non issue IMO) and grounding connectors with 6 pin grounding caps (a.k.a. spiders). Not much rusts on aluminum motorcycles.

Yep, side stand / center stand / relay arm area is a "must keep an eye on" thing. I pressure clean that on a regular basis and generously lube all the pivot points. If the side and center stand doesn't bounce on the stops when you're ready to ride, it's time.

 
Dunno about the '14 but:

- little covers on the handle bars? Remove the screw, put a rubber o-ring on and reinstall.

- take out front 2 screws that hold tank down. Wax tang that sticks out from tank.

You might try applying a little ACF-50 in there. You could possibly remove the existing corrosion with some steel wool first, if you wish, but ACF-50 will stop any further corrosion, and I doubt the exhaust tips get hot enough to burn it off. If they do, just apply more from time to time.

 
Wonder if that's a fuel, environmental, or Yamaha caused problem. I'd trooper mod it just to get rid of the unsightly pipe.

I pulled the bushings from my "Pivot Points", this is why you should do normal maintenance
