The hospital in Cambridge said that they did not have a neurosurgeon or a hand surgeon on staff so they "Life flighted" him to Cleveland Metro's Trauma Unit yesterday afternoon.

I talked to his wife last night after I got home. She said that they are keeping him stable and giving him a bunch of M.R.I's

I'm going up there now to see how he is. I'll post up something later.

Thanks you all for all the heartfelt thoughts and prayers.

I just got back from Metro. The news is good for now.

The concussion should take care of itself with time and rest.

The two vertebra in his neck are fractured on the little piece that sticks out the back and hopefully will mend themselves with time and rest.

There is fluid in his lungs and blood in his chest but it is minor and not increasing. The hope is that this to will heal itself, and not require surgery.

His right thumb is not repairable with surgery. They are going to put it in a splint and hope that the bone fragments will knit together by themselves in time,

If they don't the thumb can be taken off, at the first knuckle, at a later date. The doc said that if you are right handed it is good to have an opposable thumb on your right hand.

The MRI from last night revealed nine broken ribs along with the two fractured vertebra in his back. The doctor said that they needed to take an x-ray of Dave's back with him

standing upright to determine the compression. (Whatever that means) That will determine weather or not surgery will be required.

So for now the news is about as good as it can be.

Again, thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.

Ray, thanks for the update. The good thoughts and prayers will continue for Dave and his family. Is he up for visitors, or should that wait a little? Let me know...if you could send me his last name & room number, I wouldn't mind visiting him. Take care buddy.

Geez. Never good to hear these things. Wishing Dave a smooth recovery and best wishes to his family. Hang in there Dave. Thoughts and prayers sent his way.

Sounds like a good guy who lots of folks around here know and care about, which makes hearing it a little worse--though we all wish for the best outcome in every bike rack up. Makes you think though--those definitely sound like "motorcycle crash injuries," not "car crash injuries." Everybody be careful out there, and big hopes for a good recovery for Dave.

So sorry to hear Ray!. When I first read your report, I was thinking your buddy (the other Ray) that we rode with in Maryland, then I saw it was Dave. I'm not sure if I met Dave, but either way, I will pull and pray for him and hope he has a full recovery. Dang, this sucks. :(

Spinal compresion: Caused usually by blunt trama. He may have some fractured vertibra but you won't know until the X-Rays come back.

Hoping all ends well, praying for another Dave.

Dave

The update from yesterday and today's visit is that several x-rays have revealed that the blood in Dave's chest needed to be drained, so they inserted a drainage tube into his chest. It's kind of a nasty looking device, made up of clear tubing, but it seems to be doing it's job.

Still haven't heard anything about the condition of his back, but they have him sitting up. He is still in a great deal of pain but he has regained a lot of color in his face, and just to see him sitting up

makes me feel a lot better about his condition.

He is seeing the pulmonary doctors now, and the hand doctors next week.

The wife and I are leaving for vacation tomorrow morning, so there won't be anymore updates until late next week. I am confident that he is in the best possible place to handle his care.

It is very comforting for Dave to know that so many are praying for his quick recovery.

Oh wow. This is not a ride report that I wanted to hear :-(. So sorry about your friend. That really sucks. It sounds like he is recovering but has a way to go. Thank God he's alive and actually sitting up already. Prayers and thoughts go out him and his family and you as well.

Hey guys,

No promises but I'll try to get down to Metro Hospital and check in on Dave

If I find out anything new about Daves condition I'll let everybody know via this post

Prayers work really good at times like this IMHO
