I have to go to portland for the week of June 10th so am thiking of riding up on Sunday the 9th

I picked this route but its about 13 hours + stop time im thinking another 3 hours total for stops - so 16 hours, leaving at about 5 am to get there around 9 pm

Anyway any thoughts on the route - better suggestions - dont really want to make it longer time or distance , and am trying to avoid too much or any super-slab

Thanks all

Via CA-70 N, CA-139 N, US-97 N, OR-22 W, OR-99W N

In my experience, US-97 from Klamath Falls to Bend is: a] very scenic; b] very heavily traveled; c] very heavily enforced; d] with regular construction delays during good weather. I can't recommend it.

If I was going there for a week, I would take the motorcycle also. Shuttle be damned!

Here is how I would go. Splitting the trip into 2 days to provide time for "sightseeing". Although I have done Portland <-> Folsom in one day before (not on the route below of course, but still about 720+ miles) - didn't provide for much time off the saddle.

No. That one isn't mine. Motorcycle is just for pleasure not commuting for me. :)

2 days coming back would be cool. That route I posted is probably better done north to south anyway - in my opinion. Some nice views of Mt. Shasta going south.. :)

Hey Jeff --- what's wrong with straight up i-5 - LOL!

Tcfjr is correct though - heavy enforcement and construction on 97, almost all the time it seems.

Sam (Puppychow) -- his route I like, -- the Cascade Lake bypass I've only partially done and a good road for sure.

Don't forget yer cool vest for the hot bits !

Roger - one road that Bug told me about was highways 242/126 over McKenzie Pass - my guess is that the road isn't usually open by early June due to snow, but if it is I thought it was really fantastic. You leave 20 at Sisters, then connect back onto 20 after you go over the pass then shortly join up to highway 22 - it might not totally fit your goal of no extra time but I would highly recommend it if open.

Edit - Of course if I had looked at Sam's route in detail before posting I would have seen that he already included that option. All I can do from here is endorse!!

Just for infomation Hwy 97 doesn't have any contruction going at this time and I ran 65-75 on the way back from GOTC. It's a boring road in places but still beats the **** out of I-5.
