Which are better as stop farkles, Hyper-lites or Signal Dynamics license plate holder lights? Is one brighter and grabbing more attention? I have also seen bikes with headlight modulators for daytime use. Does anyone know about this?

My wife is very concerned for my safety - thanks for the input..

Thumperbike,

As for the headlight modulators: I have one and I use it only when approaching an intersection where someone is waiting for a clearing , or when someone coming towards me is planning on a left turn. I would rate it as must-have safety equipment right next to my Stebel Magnums & Nautilus horns.

I use a flasher on my standard brake lights to get their attention.

dobias <_<

I have had kisan headlight modulators on several bikes. Always will after seeing the difference they make the first time. I don't run them all the time during the daylight, but will run them along high-risk areas of road. I don't just turn them on at intersections since that might mean distrations when you need focus more. But I don't run them when behind someone for any length of time (irritating them in their rearview mirror).

I personally like the Hyper-Lites since they are very bright and add more lights to the back instead of cycling off the already-limited lighting that a brake wig-wag would. Some like the signal dynamics but there's a back story of why I don't do business with them.

I have moto lights and hyperlites, I notice cars almost jump out of my way when i have the motolights on, I hear it's due to the triangular pattern although with the FJR it's four lights...

I had a small town cop ask me if I was an emergency vehicle... "WHAT???"

He said I have flashing red lights on the back of the bike... (Hyperlights)

I said your kidding right, I asked if they got his attention, and that was the point of the lights back there... He walked away after he saw I started getting heated... :angry03:

I have modulators on my FJR and run them pretty much all the time, unless I'm in a group, or directly behind someone. People look - within the first week of having them there were a number of times where (driving in town) I could see people who wanted to pull into my path do a "double-take" and then let me pass, even a few where they would have been clear to go.

I personally installed the Comagination modulator, and it was a complete no-brainer - took about 2 minutes start to finish.

You might also want to print out and carry a copy of USC Title 49, Section 301, which says modulators on motorcycles are legal in the daylight. I've never been stopped by the po-po while running them, but I have gotten some strange looks. I keep a copy of the USC with the registration and ins. cards, so if I do get stopped I can go a little further than saying "But they're supposed to be legal"

(Here's a link to the Canadian law of the same stripe)
