and a surprise appearance by ZZkenoman

HERE is a link to the Spot tracker i used on the day.

and HERE is a map of the Route.

I left my house at 6am and headed for John's, we were scheduled to leave at 6.30 but as usual John was not ready until 6.40...

We still managed to make it San Diego for our 8am breakfast meeting with Bill, Jeff, Greg and Don.

After breakfast we headed over to San Diego Harley Davidson to wait to the rest of the group.

Skooter waiting for a plane to hit the building next door.

We left San Diego at 10.20 and headed east, led by Dave (low Level) as he was a local and knew some good way to get to highway 94.

On the way to 94 Steve (03silverbullet) decided to see which was quicker and 05 or my 08 as it turns out i think Tim was giving him a little push as he just managed to stay ahead of me.

We picked up 94 and i took over the lead :clap:. I did make sure we stopped at every turn do the slower guys could catch up.

We stopped for gas some where along 94 so those that needed it could fill up, at this point ZZkenoman said he was leaving as his neck was bothering him (he is still recovering from a bad crash in 06).

After we left the gas station I picked up the pace a little, we got to a junction in the road and waited for the rest to catch up.

It seemed like we were waiting for ages, we were just about to go and look for the other guys when they rolled up, it seems that the 08 Harley that **** rented had a problem (what a surprise), The foot plate decided it did not like the bike it was attached to and promptly fell off. They did managed to fix it with duct tape.

We ran all the way along 94 then picked up old Highway 80, this road runs right along the border fence,

Which seems to suddenly stop when they can to a hill?????

From Old Highway 80 we headed to the freeway (8) then head west again looking for the S1 (Sunrise highway).

Wow what a road this is, at 6000ft it was a bit cool up there but the scenery more than made up for it.

After the picture stop on the Sunrise Highway we headed for Julian for lunch and the worse fish and chips I have ever had in my life and believe me I have had a lot of fish and chips........

After lunch we all went our separate ways, John and I were intending to take highway 76 all the way to Oceanside but due to a misunderstanding on my part we managed to take 78 all the way to Carlsbad instead, we did meet up with Steve along the way (god only knows where he had been).

All in all it was a good day to be riding, it was a bit cool in places (48 is cold for Cali guys) but still great riding weather.

i arrived home at 7.45 after a couple of Beers at Johns with another 415 miles on the bike and some nice scrubbed in PR2's.

Post up your pics guys, I really want to see pictures of that 09 Harley we sat on in the parking lot!!!!!!!!!

They rest of the folks haven't gotten home yet, FairLaner!

Nice post - good to see 03SilverBullett kicked yer ass in the speed contest!

Nice report, thanks for posting the report and the pictures.

I do have a question: they really asked you to move off the parking lot?

Thanks again.

Lee

Nice report, makes me miss San Diego.

Two points of advice:

-When in Julian, stick to pie

-If you get a chance to ride that area again don't miss coming up Banners grade into Julian

From my old ride report when Larry (ZZkenoman) was riding an FJR.

Yes they did ask us to move from the middle of the parking lot so we kinda spread out around the sides........

Larry now rides a ZX14 which is probably why his neck was bothering him.

Hey all, had a great time with you guys. Thanks for showing us the sites around the area and a great lunch in Julian. By the way, we found a market in Ocean Beach that sells Julian Pies so we got to bring one back to the motel after all.

I think my buddy Richard eyes were opened on how fast and agile FJR's are over Harley's, I think he will be looking for something a little sportier in his next bike. He didn't like the Fat Boy at all.

Had a great trip back. I spent the night in Salinas, CA and got back home at 9PM on Saturday. Ran into a hell of a rain storm between Grants Pass and Eugene, from there it was just windy and cold. The tires held out and the bike ran well, all in all a great trip.

Thanks again guys, maybe I can return the favor sometime.

Bill
