Last year I rode from Pagosa Springs to Santa Fe and the road had a lot of construction...difficult riding, in places, for me. Can someone tell me if the construction is still in progress or is the road complete.

TIA.

Look up and send a message to gasman (Jerry) on this board. He lives in Pagosa Springs and should be able to tell you.

Roger that all clear and thanx, Guys. I'm thinking abt another visit to Santa Fe and Durango...two of my all time favorite places to visit.
Brazos,

You might want to consider contacting NM DOT just before leaving for your ride to see if there's new "road work" going on along your route. I wouldn't trust AAA to have current information. I gave them a 2,000 mile route in 05 and asked about construction. They said "none" and I ran into plenty including 17 miles of gravel road between Espanola and Chama. And that was less than 150 miles from their office.

We have neighbor friends who just moved up to Chama and they said the road's clear. At least right now. That could well change in a couple months though.

The section between Chama and Espanola was the exact section I'm referring to in the original post. I don't know how I made that section w/out dumping the bike...came close several times. Good to know that road is clear...for now. And, I'll check w/ NM DOT before planning the route. Thanx.

I too rode that section 7/1. And it was hairy. But now have a WeeStrom too and am looking forward to riding those kinds of roads :yahoo:

I did not like riding that section of road (around 6/1/06). "Hairy" is an understatement. I had a fully loaded '05 and damn near lost it several times in the loose stuff. In my mind, I kept seeing side bags duct-taped to the bike, mirrors gone, etc. Was really glad to get to Garrett's Desert Inn in Santa Fe and park.
