Lorie is going with her sister to their beach house this weekend and I'm getting up Sat morning and riding. Anyone interested? New 06 guys - Patrick, Powerman - "old timers" Heidi, Galaxy5, toophast, anyone?? I prefer to end up at home (Stafford, VA) but don't really care too much about what time! If I end up alone, I'll probably head SE past Charllotesville to NC. Maybe Heidi or Dave can refresh me on the good NC roads in that area. Looking forward to hearing from folks...

Jim

I'd love to meet up w/ you Jim but heading out myself this weekend. Leaving tomorrow with my friend Jeff & his girl Laura & doing some cycle camping.

Good roads abound in Carolina... but if you're just doing a day trip I'd stay in Virginia... maybe tipping into WV. There's good roads just outside of Charlottesville. Just pick one on a map & ride it.

I like Rte 250... but there are other good ones there. 33 is supposed to be the sh!t, too. Never rode 33 on a cycle.

Getting into Carolina for a day trip is asking for a really tired a$$ & soul... if you can physically make it. Whenever I get into Carolina, which has some stellar riding, I make it at least a 3 day trip.

Thanks very much for the invite.

Heidi

Yeah, you're probably right. I did enjoy the WV roads we took when we all met in March. Maybe I'll do that again or some variation. Have a good weekend and good hearing from you again!

Thanks Jim!!

lemme see.. I've got a couple of conflicts, but I'm wondering if I might be able to intersect with you folks somewhere in the middle? I've got a grandson's soccer game to attend at 9 -- I should be leaving there by 10:30. And, I'm supposed to meet Jan and some of the guys from her shop at the 4 P's in Falls Church for a pint o' Guinness at the end of the afternoon. For me, that means getting home around 4 to switch out the bike for the car -- I've managed to be successful in never mixing adult beverage and two wheel transport and don't wanna start now. so.... that leaves me with a smaller than desirable block o' time which may not do you much good.

I was tentatively headed toward Charlottesville with a buddy who rides an ST1300, but I'm not sure if he will still be interested once he finds out about my time restrictions. These sorts of things should be easier for me once the soccer games end (one more after this one... yee-haw!!).

Mercy... I'm making myself tired just rereading this!!

In any case, I might be able to work out meeting you all somewhere en route... I could email you my cell number if that would help.

best regards

Patrick

Jim,

I'm up for a Sat. ride. When and where you want to meet? The Sheetz station in Haymarket is usually a pretty good place.

Gary

Patrick,

Sure, email me your number. To be honest, I'm not sure which way I'll head. I'm thinking either Gettysburg or South to/down the Blue Ridge Parkway and that area. I usually get up and out of the house by 0730, but I can give you a call around 1030 if you like.

Jim

Gary, OK with me! I'm usually at the Starbucks down the block (from me) by 0730 for a wakeup, can certainly change my routine. What time do you like to get going? Haymarket is probably 45 min or so from me and it looks like a good place to start w/options west, south, and/or north. 0900 would give me plenty of coffee time and time to get to Sheetz.

Jim & Gary;

For future reference anyway -- that Sheetz in Haymarket is VERY easy for me to get to. :yahoo:

Probably about 15 minutes from home at the most. Definitely makes for a very good meeting staging spot if the ride is headed down 29 or out 55, 211, over to Middleburg, or parts in-between.

regards

Patrick

ps Jim -- just emailed you the cell number!

Dang !! Dang !! double dog Dang !!

I have a crew working on one of my properties this Saturday ,, and teaching on Sunday !!!

if your comming down the parkway may I suggest that when you get to Tuggels Gap (rt8 Floyd) that you take a little run down and back up Rt8 ,, come off the pkwy lft off the ramp onto 8 ,, the Motel and dinner on the left ,, have the apple pie ,, it is a place where local riders meet and ride together ,,

or let me know when you will be comming through and I'll meet you and take you on some local twisties ,,

or I could take you over to 311 from Roanoke and you could go over to WV and then down through Iron Gate to 49 over 11 and then hook up with Goshen Pass near Lexington

pm me and let me know if I can be of some help !!

galxy5,

That's a little long for a day ride. Tuggles Gap is 300 miles from my house. But I did ride from Arlington to Lovers' Leap and back on my R1 last year. 630 miles in 1 day. I was a little sore the next day :(

I had lunch at Tuggles Gap last Saturday (without the apple pie). I rode down the BRP and stayed at the Willville campground at Meadows of Dan over Memorial Day weekend. I rode 58 over to Damascus, then down 133 to Shady Valley, TN then 421 and 321 into Boone, and back up the BRP. It was a great 300-mile loop.

Also if you take 40 east from Woolwine over to Ferrum, that's a good twisty road to ride too.

I may be able to join you, depends on how I feel. I've got a bad sinus infection that's kicking my ***, the heat is getting to me. Let's see what a few day's of antibiotics do??

Heidi,

We did 33 on the ride earlier in the year. Remember?

Jim,

I have a previous commitment that I'm trying to get out of. I won't know until late tomorrow night. If I'm able to get out of it, you just might see me Sat a.m.

Randy - hope you can make it, it'll be good to see you again. I'll PM you my cell number in case you need to call. If we don't see you while we're taking a Sheetz, I'll check voicemail.

Powerman - if you want to ride out to Haymarket together, I'll be at the Starbucks on Rt 610 around 0715 or 0730 and will head out around 0800. RT 95 exit 143B (610 W/Garrisonville). First light take a right into the shopping galaxy - left at 1st stop sign and it's straight ahead (little bit around the corner). You can recognize me by the beautiful Galaxy Blue 05 FJR w/American flag on the windscreen and the EGA below my license plate!

Looking forward to the ride and taking your 06s apart!

Jim & Gary;

Very nice to meet you both. I'm sure you had a great day of riding, wish I could have joined you. I had a little window to get out and run and enjoyed it greatly. Lots of wind, but just a beautiful day of contrasts in spite of that.

Looking forward to another day, another time.

Best regards

Patrick

Great ride today Jim, I really enjoyed it (except for the part where I got us lost in Staunton :( ). Sorry you couldn't make it Patrick.

I rode a total of 430 miles.

Gary

Gary;

If you're gonna get lost -- thats not a bad area of the world to end up scratching your head. I love it down that way. Glad you folks made it home safe and sound and had a great day. Looking forward to another ride, another day!

best regards!!
