It depends on which part of the city you're staying at, old or new?
Old Savannah is the historic district located along the Savannah River. The major draw is "River Street" which is a cobble stone street (really slippery on a bike, but possible when its dry) running between the river and the city. Most of the restaurants along this area are great, with some pricier than others, but the pricier ones are usually worth it.
Heading "inland" into the city, there are other really good restaurants and bars scattered through the area. Bay street is the main road which separates the river front area from the rest of the historic area. The only chain restaurant is an Outback Steakhouse on Bay St. Otherwise, great bars, great food.
If you know anybody who loves Paula Dean (from the food network channel), her restaurant is located about 4 blocks from Bay St, (but I forget the crossroad). Always worth a stop, but you usually need reservations for dinner.
Lots of history in the area. There are several trolley tours that you can take that are pretty fun and informative. The majority of them start on river street and go throughout the city.
If you like old forts, Fort Pulaski is a civil war era fort located between Savannah and Tybee Island, Its in really good shape and you can walk throughout it.
As far as riding, forget it!! The streets and roads are flat and straight.
I've been going there twice a year for the last 8 or so years for training. Its always a fun time.
As far as the new section of the city,,,, I go there for any required shopping and thats about it. You can find all the malls and chain restaurants you desire.
There is a pretty good Aviation museum right off of I95. There are signs for it on the hwy if you want to find it.
Hope some of this helps,
Kevin
